Glad to see this from SWA

My last time flying out of Vegas, I used SWA and was very happy to see them actually enforcing the boarding order. I was B1 and there were at least 4 people lined up with the A group that were asked to step aside and wait for their position in line before boarding. Talking to the person seated next to me on the flight, he said that they were doing the same thing when he flew out. I didn’t pay much attention on the way out because I was A17 then so I was already on the plane by the time it would have happened. So is SWA making a concerted effort to make ppl board in their proper position or is this one of those things where they enforce it for a week or two and then forget about it so it goes back to the way it’s been previously and they do nothing about ppl cutting in line?

I’ve taken hundreds of SWA flights and I routinely see the gate agents telling people to step aside it’s not their time to board. But I’ve also seen people get through too. To me it appears most of the time the offender just isn’t aware of their ridiculous bording procedure.

We do not fly SWA all that often, and when we do, it’s most often for business, so have A Group, with Business Select. We seldom see problems with Boarding.

However, Las year we flew them 4x, on tickets provided by someone else’s corporate travel dept, and I got us high B.

In each case, folk were out of line, or tried to sneak past the podium, from outside the line. In one case a mother & daughter (?) rushed the gate, ran past the GA, and proceeded to “save seats” for 10 other “family members.” Did not see their BP’s, so have no idea if they were A, or low B, and missed their spot in line. Or otherwise. No agent questioned.

In another case, 2 C Group pax hung out by the podium, and tried to sneak in with each group, but were caught each time, and sent back. Each time the process was explained to them, but the claimed to not understand.

Though we only fly WN/SWA about 10x per year, we find their Boarding Group, and Slot easy to use, and used properly by most - but not all pax.

Good luck,

Hunt

Dave,

UA uses Boarding Group lanes, at most gates, at most airports, and that has really cut back on the number of “gate lice.”

I only recall one such “gate crashed” at LHR, a few years ago. Though Group 2 was printed on his BP, he insisted that he board first, as he was a Star Alliance Gold. The agents kept sending him back.

Oh, then there was an odd guy at SFO, who was actually booked in another flight, who barged the gate, before boarding started. Finally, Security had to take him away. My *guess* is that adult beverages were involved, but might have been some other problem?

It seems that "gate lice" are a problem with any airline. I can't understand why people cannot simply stay in their seats (or at least not crowd around the gate) until its time for their group to board. I'm usually in Group 1 or 2 with AA and I can't remember the last flight I took where I had to say, excuse me" and make my way past people holding a boarding pass with group 4-9 printed on it who were standing between me and the door to the jetway.

As for people trying to board with an earlier group - I always give the gate agent a thumbs up when they tell a person to go back and wait until they are called.

I fly to LV on Southwest 2 or 3 times a year, I pay for Early Bird boarding for My wife and I, Our BP is usually between A20 & A28 which should give us aisle seats in the first 7 or 8 rows. when we board there are people in aisle seats with carry ons in other seats saving them for people without Early Bird boarding. I have complained to SW about this and their answer is "as long as it does not interfere with boarding" they will not stop this practice. I pay for my EB boarding, would like other posters thoughts on this, am I wrong?

Tober,

I agree.

Group 5 boards AFTER Group 4.

Can they not count, and on one hand?

Some folk are just going to be a problem, and, other than genocide, not much can be done about it.
