The Mgm Grand

Is it weird that (once again) I've changed my mind? LOL

Now MGM is in the running. I've heard so many positives about this place except for the smoky casino. That's a biggie for us... however a nice pool with shade and chairs is another biggie for us.... so we're thinking this may be it!

Any thoughts? Pros? Cons? I've heard the west tower is not recommended.

Love all the advice here............ Jackie

We have stayed at the mgm four out of five times we have gone to LV. Was just there the end of April. It is where my wife wants to stay and of course that is the main contributing factor. We have not had any service issues. The Grand tower rooms are consistently clean, maid service is very good, beds are great and there just are not any surprises. We like the fact that you can utilize airport check-in. The pools are wonderful. Several are adult only, and the cocktail/food service is very good. We have not eaten a bad meal in any of the restaurants. There is certainly a lot to be said for trying new places. However, we do prefer the size of the MGM (seems more like Vegas should be) and the vibe of the place. We also seem to get good pricing at this hotel. It also has a monrail station to enable visits off the property. Based upon what I read in this forum, we did opt out of the West Wing room on our last trip. Changed at airport check-in with no problem. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you.

I'll give you my Pro's and what I've read are Cons

First the Cons:

People complain because this hotel is so large. Yes, it's one of the largest hotels in the world. Some get lost in it. But it does have very good signage and you get a map when you check in with your keys. For me the layout is simple, but that's me.

The Hallways can be very long. Again it's the largest hotel. Maybe ask for a room close to the elevators.

Some have experienced bad service. Again...if you have to please over 5,000 people everyday, not everyone gets taken care of. You could disappoint 50 people a day and still have a 99% approval rating.

Some on this board have been bumped. One to Luxor, but another to The Signature. No one wants to be bumped. But with people booking multiple hotels, then canceling at the last minute, hotels need to protect the bottom line.

I have been lucky in all these areas.

I have had the best service at this hotel.

I love that's it's huge.

It has lots and lots of dining choices.

It has tons of gambling choices.

I like that the monorail starts here.

For your questions, it has one of the best set of pools in Vegas. I have not used them, but made a point to look at them a few weeks ago.

The West Wing has the smallest rooms in the hotel. They have been updated to the new design for the rest of the hotel. Very small windows. But they are closer to the Strip. Less walking. Check the website for floor plan.

I hate smoke, and my eyes are bothered when it gets too bad. 3 weeks ago, I never had that experience in my eyes. I know Paris Hotel was the best in my experience for that. But again, I experienced no eye irritation walking through the casino.

Take all of this info and decide what works for you. Obviously I shamelessly promotoe this place on a daily basis. Because I truely believe it's a fun and wonderful place to stay!

Have fun no matter which hotel you choose!

MGM is large enough to be away from smoke in the casinos. Only when I've been in a really busy area have I noticed a lot of smoke - and it's been that way in any casino I've played in.

I have only stayed there once and had a great experience. Yes, large, but it seems really 'clean' to me. Not sure how to really describe it. You can always find newer machines. You can play around a lot of people or find an area with lots fewer people.

Haven't been to the pool, but it sure gets rave reviews here.

If this is your first trip I don't think you can go wrong with MGM. You mention the pool(s) there are several along with a nice lazy river and plenty of chairs. It is a bit of a walk to the pools but if you are like me you go and stay out there until you are through for the day.

I use to smoke but never seem to have a problem with it any where in the hotel or casino area. If you like to gamble a little or a lot the MGM will satisfy that issue.

Food wise you can get anything from a chain style burger or pizza up to beef dry aged for 56 days and plenty of food in between.

I've never had a bad room or suite at MGM. Currently staying in the Hollywood suite when we go.

Go to the MGM website. You can find a complete hotel layout plus floor plans and pictures of all the rooms and amenities.

Here's a fun way to check out MGM or any hotel.

Someone suggested to "Google" the hotels with the map/satellite images from Google. I did that as we're staying at MGM and wanted to see what it looked like this way. You can zoom in very close and see the layout of the pools and lazy river. You can "strool" along the strip from overhead and see some interesting aspects of any of the properties. Check out the image that's projected onto the Luxor pyramid. It's a new, fun way to waste time (especially when I'm at work!)

I don't find MGM to be that smokey at all. I think I smell smoke in aplace like Bill's (Old time casino- low ceilings).

I cons with MGM are is it's location but the monorail can take you to the middle of the strip- no big deal in my opinion.

The other con is that it is so big- again I don't find this to be an issue when I have stayed there or gambled there.

I thought rooms at MGM were very nice. Pool gets great reviews, and the restaurants are very good as well.

MGM is the best hotel to stay at! resonably priced rooms.... lots of dining choices...cool nightlife... awesome pool.... great service....

what else can you ask for?

we stayed in december and it felt so nice and comfy... all the other hotels had too many people in and out of the casino.. this one was alot more laid back and smelled good.

The West Wing rooms are great. We just got back from 6 nights in one on the 11th floor. No complaints from a size standpoint. The room was very modern. Bose radio. 2 flat screen tv's...one of which is in the mirror in the bathroom. Frosted glass sectioned off toilet "room" and shower. Laptop sized safe. High speed internet. Very fast access to the strip. Pillow top comfy king size bed.

I did not find the casino smokey and we we there for Cinco de Mayo/Kentucky Derby/De la Hoya fight...and that is from a person with a allregy/sensitivity to cig smoke.

We loved going out to the lazy river every afternoon. The pools were great!

The lions and cubs during feeding time were very impressive.

The buffet was great. All of the food was nice and hot with tons of selections.

There are so many restaurants, lounges, bars to choose from you really don't even have to leave MGM if you so choose.

We did not have a problem navigating MGM at all and did not have any issues with distances.

We will definitely go back to MGM!
