Four Seasons vs. THEhotel at Mandalay Bay -- is FS boring?

We've finally narrowed down our hotel choices to these two and could really use your help.

I've done my shopping and the price will be within $100 of each other for a 3 day stay, so all things being equal, which property would you choose?

This is our first trip to Vegas, and yes, we have considered the Bellagio, Wynn and Venetian and realise this is at the South end of the strip.

We like contemporary design, but details are really important. High threadcount, luxury bath goodies, thick towels, finishing touches. An amazing bathroom wins my heart. The rooms at the FS look a little boring, but I do not want to see a room that is all style but no substance with worn edges and cheap linens (could THEhotel be accused of that?).

I do not care about who I see or who sees me. It is all about the room and that I have only positive experiences with staff or guests.

Tell me which one and tell me why -- thanks so much!

You really cannot compare 4-Seasons with The Hotel other than they are in same building. 4-Season is quite a step up being a 4-Star facilty compared with The Hotel being a 3-Star/ Which means the 4-Star is going to have the higher thread count in the linens, thicker towels, goodies, ect which you are looking for.

The service at 4 seasons cannot be beat, the rooms are well appointed but furnished a little more neutral.-

I have stayed at both-for rooms I enjoyed The Hotel.

I would take a second look at Wynn-it is very hard to beat-and personally I prefer that end of the strip.

I guess other travel websites have 'upped' the ratings of these hotels. I thought the Four Seasons was more or less 5* and THEhotel was 4 1/2*. Sometimes rooms stack up differently than the actual facilities (higher ratings for having a pool or an extra restaurant for instance). I've stayed in some 4 *'s that have nicer rooms than 5*'s. In fact, I've been in a Four Seasons rooms that are nothing special.

If you could pretend that you knew nothing about a hotel except for the ROOM you were in, which would you pick to live in?

Am I really out of my mind to pick one of these hotels over the Bellagio or something closer to the action?

In response to montrealtraveller -- what is it about the North end of the strip that you like or the Wynn for that matter?

I can get a great deal at the Wynn (about $400 less for a 3 day trip than the Four Seasons).

The ratings in vegas are a bit weird..

Favorite rooms in Vegas in order:

Wynn

The Hotel

Caesars(augustus tower)

Bellagio

For service

Wynn

Bellagio

Caesars

The Hotel

If you have not been to Vegas before I would definately consider the north end

epicureangirl,

Website and travel agencies rating have no difintion or meaning when it comes to hotel ratings. Only Mobel Travel, and AAA hve defined and inspection processes in place with Mobil have the strictest and highest standards in the World.

By Mobil, LV only has five 4-Star facilites in the state of NV

4-Seasons

Ritz,

Bellagio

Wynn

Venetion

The only 5-Star facilty in NV is a small section of Wynn called Tower Suites

Four seasons will likely give you better service but unless they have recently remodeled their standard rooms going by room alone THEhotel is better. Four seasons is boring but that is what it is supposed to be. It is on top of Mandalay Bay so you take an elevator and you are in the casino. Therefore you have a quite place to be with a seperate pool area for four seasons guests and still have everything MB has to offer.

If you can get the price you want at Wynn, then without hesitation go for it.

Route66, I couldn't quite gather what advice you had for me, other than that you really like the boat ride at the Venetian.

The 'hand' is important in the sheets, but I can't get over there to touch them right now and don't need a primer on sheets. I know what 200 threadcount feels like, a poly-cotton mix too -- and I'm not too interested in either.

This isn't really about Vegas, as much as it is a getaway for a couple that is getting a few precious days away without the kids. It's not that the sheets and the bed are going to 'make the trip', but they can certainly break them when you feel like you've been robbed of your money for a crappy room.

The rooms are all about the same price, so all things being equal, where is a great place to stay? I don't care about the restaurants in the hotel, or what stores are in the lobby -- I can enjoy those at any hotel without staying there.
