DW got to sleep in today!! (It’s a favorite pastime of hers) I did the usual routine but with not so positive results. DW awoke with a beginner migraine, so she popped a Vicodin to combat the pain. Got us the REAL Breakfast of Champions since Starbucks finally had their Java Chips in. We hoped the caffeine would aid in headache relief.
Grabbed a cab to Flyaway Indoor Skydiving and arrived at 10 minutes to 11. When researching fun and different things to do in Vegas, my DW remembered seeing a Travel Channel show on indoor skydiving places including Vegas. Some of you may remember, that I began a weight loss program in April in order to be able to do this. I originally weighed in at around 270 pounds and there is a weight limit of 230. I lost a total of 50 pounds through diet and exercise prior to leaving for Las Vegas.
Weigh in time…(cue suspenseful music) only gained 4 pounds in the last 6 days since my pre-trip weigh in!! Classes every half hour, so we got right in along with 3 other people. You watch a video on body position, and the hand signals the instructor gives you to aid you in adjusting for proper flight position. Sign the required waiver and suited up.
The whole experience was a total BLAST! The instructor was awesome, very good at teaching, and very patient. You start off laying on the floor and they turn up the fans until you rise up in the air with the instructor holding on to the handle built into the sides of the suit. When you stabilize, he lets go of you for brief moments all the while giving hand signals to help you adjust. After about a minute, he tosses you to the side and takes the next person. DW was a natural. He let go of her almost immediately and she flew by herself a lot.
The next entry into the fans you get to Superman jump right into the air stream. This was a TRIP!!! This one lasted about 3-4 minutes and the instructor helped you out. He had told us in the beginning that he may “flip you over and toss you around like a pizza”. Well, DW was the lucky recipient of the pizza toss. One of the things you have to do when you finish a flight is a tuck and roll on to the huge pads at the sides of the room and give a thumbs up to let them know you are okay. DW was too dizzy after the pizza toss to even remember her name! She was the last person to go, so the fan engines were cut and we all exited. DW told me that I had a smile plastered on my face from ear to ear from start to finish. It was really the icing on the cake for me after all of that hard work to be able to do this. It was well worth every minute spent on the elliptical machine, every snack I skipped and every meal that consisted of much smaller portions than I was used to. I’ll do this again in my lifetime.
Next part Lunch in Heaven and Jubilee!
Yeah! I'm cheering for your self-discipline to lose so much weight. I know the battle well. I'm, also, cheering for you that you were able to participate in such a fun activity. It looks like something I would love to do, but don't think I could handle it. Besides, being older than dirt, I sometimes have problems with virtigo. That would be a disaster, cause once it sets in, it usually takes a few days to completely pass.
Thanks for continuing to feed my fantasy.
Just a quick question. What was the pricing for this experience? I have finally made it down to about 219lbs from 251lbs and I was thinking about giving something like this. Let me know! Thanks
Carrera, the cost was about $80 per person. I was offered and declined the DVD of the flights for $25 which I am now kicking myself for not getting.

Hey, that means you will have to go back and do it again! So glad you did it and enjoyed it! But most of all- I admire your self-discipline. That was a lot of weight to lose and you did it!! Fantastic!!!
Sounds like so much fun!! Good for you for setting your goal and achieving it!! The DVD would have been good...I agree you have to go back and do it again! I think it's great that both of you were able to enjoy this together!
OH!! How was DW headache after all of this? LOL...I'm hoping the adrenaline helped out some! =)
I always wanted to fly like Superman (well Woman), and I have also seen that segment on the Travel Channel and wanted to try it sometime...looks like it was worth the time and money!
I don't know that I would have the guts to do this, but I enjoyed reading your description and picturing it. I really congratulate you for losing all that weight - skydiving or no, I'm sure you look and feel like a million bucks.
After looking forward and working so hard for this goal, I am so happy for you that it turned out so great. Mrs. Lonsouth sounds like she is ready to go do this one again. Maybe you guys can take DD for 21st birthday gift and all of you do this one. Then you have a tradition to do with each of the kids.
Looking forward to next part. I am a slow reader.
Wow!!!! You lost THAT much weight???? Brother...you have my total respect on this one!!!!!!
Dropping to the floor and bowing like I was meeting Cleopatra for the first time.....LOL
