Best of Downtown

We are thinking of heading downtown one evening of our trip to do some exploring. Does anyone have any favorites in terms of places to eat or see? TIA

Let's see if Ducky and I post at the same time....

La Bayou for a slushy drink!!!!!! =)

I love just wandering in and out of all the places down there! My favorites for gambling are Fremont and Main Street Station.

The Golden Nugget has the fun new shark tank/pool area to see.

If you get there early enough, go visit the Beef Jerky Store on 3rd street. So fun...they have more types of Jerky than you could ever imagine, as well as nuts, candy, etc.

It's fun at night so you can see the light show on the canopy.

See Tony Vegas the spray-painter. He'll have a small crowd around him so you won't have any trouble spotting him.

MSS buffet is decent. It has a good selection of food and a attractive dining area. Don't expect the Bellagio.

Binion's casino has a nice vibe to it.

The Beef Jerky store is surprisingly big. Whodathunk there would be that much dried food?

Downtown is not worth the time and effort. You will feel like you need a shower after going there. The light show is nothing, the bus trip is long and horrid

The Grotto at the Nugget has good reasonable Italian food and many of the tables overlook the pool.

If you want to spend a bit more than that ( but not much more actually) many of us love Hugo's Celler in the basement of the Four Queens- very attentive service and good food. Usually requires reservations, but you certainly could try for a walk in early evening on a weekday if you don't want to deciide right away. Their meals include salad and chocolate dipped fruit as a light desset, so you don't usually need any other courses and can dine there for less than $50 pp plus alcohol. Their mixed drinks ( al least martinis etc) are served in carafes over ice and usually have two generous pours.

Ha ha....I'm right behind you, CO!!! My ears were burning so now know you were typing about me! LOL (I am extremely busy here at work today or would have replied when you did)

Yes, yes....La Bayou and Mermaids are fun little casinos, but we like to gamble at any of the casinos DT and like MSS for the Brew Pub!

One previous poster who mentions having to shower after a Downtown trip ( gosh I shower daily no matter what) is well known for his disdain of Downtown, airport shuttles, buses etc on the Forum. Many of us love Downtown and use the buses with regularity and I daresay I am just as clean as he is. Nothing he mentioned has ever seemed "horrible" to me.

I suggest you try it once yourself and see what you think. We used to stay on the Strip and tried Downtown and now stay there every time. To each his own, but make up your own mind after trying it.

Can't give downtown gambling advice, but we enjoy a trip to Fremont Street every visit to Vegas.

Enjoy watching the spray painter (as previously mentioned), finger painter, other artists, Karl Ferris on his "Safe Sax" and other musicians. People watching downtown is great.

On the agenda for MY next trip is dinner at Hugo's.

Enjoy :)

"Downtown is not worth the time and effort. You will feel like you need a shower after going there. The light show is nothing, the bus trip is long and horrid"

You forgot to post -IN YOUR OPINION-as it's not everyones.

I believe the thread was titled " Best of Downtown"...not "Tell us how you feel about downtown"
