cabs vs shuttles

I am going to Vegas in November to celebrate my Moms retirement with her. It's the first time I have been there. She tells me that the hotel will have a shuttle to pick us up from the airport. I haven't seen much about this on here, mainly just Taxi service from the airport. Or rental cars. Why is that? Don't all the hotels have shuttle service? Or is it so lousy that everyone takes a cab??

No not all of the hotels have them. It is usually easier to take a cab to the hotel unless you are planning on renting a car, they have them in the airport garage or a shuttle to take you to the rental place

lslomania,

If you type "shuttles" in the search box, it will bring up many posts as to the pros and cons based on others experiences. You can do the same for taxis, limos, etc. Some people prefer one mode of travel to another. This should help you decide what is best for you.

Good Luck!

Most hotels on the strip do not have their own shuttles. You can get a shuttle at the airport. It may take a long time to get to your hotel using a shuttle. You may have to wait until the bus fills up with other passengers and then you may not be the first one to be dropped off. Also- if there are two or more people- a cab may not cost that much more. Most people like to get to their hotel as soon as possible and start their vacation. Some posters have reported problems with the return trip to the airport- the shuttle was late picking them up or didn't appear at all.

Sometimes the cab lines are long but they usually move rather quickly. http://taxi.state.nv.us/FaresFees.htm

I've already booked the shuttle, but after such a long flight I might just head for the Taxi. I don't want to waste a minute of my holiday.

I believe that the shuttles charge $5 per person. A cab to Paris from the airport cost me about $9- plus tip ($11 plus tip from htel to airport - all depends on traffic). So a taxi is not that expensive and saves you a lot of time.

Here's a link to the shuttles:

What we try to warn people against with the shutlles is time....

Like vp said, they wait to fill up, then they will have many stops. If you're lucky enough to be one of the first stops, it'll work well for you.

But we've also had many people complain of the shuttle ride back to the airport. Some have been very close to missing their planes.

It's vacation and it's Vegas. My vacation time means a lot to me. That's why I take the taxi.

NEVER, ever take a shuttle to or from the airport...except maybe a free one from a distant place like Sunset Station, etc.

If cabbing it costs $10 more....not that it will..it is the best $10 you will spend on your trip

islomania, you didn't mention when hotel you are staying at. The Red Rock and Green Valley Ranch come to mind as casinos/hotels that have their own shuttles to the airport. If you are staying at the Red Rock or South Point , the taxi can get pretty expensive. Check what hotel you're staying at and see if they have their own shuttle providing transportation to/from the airport.

If you're on the strip, I agree with the others-take a cab.

yeah, I didn't mention the hotel. It's the Excalibur. Mom booked everything, and so I am going along for the ride, but was getting concerned about the shuttle thing, I think her travel agent, not the hotel told her the hotel has a shuttle waiting at the airport. I will check into it further through the hotel. Of course we want to start the vacation as soon as possilbe, that's one reason we are only taking carry ons! Thanks everyone so much for your help

Good point Hitch. I should remember to add the non strip disclaimer!
