Flu this year

I am watching the today show right now and they are talking about all the different flu strains this year. It seems that the flu vaccine this year is around 50 percent effective this year. As we are leaving for Vegas in a couple of weeks, we are keeping our fingers crossed. There are already several schook systems around us that have closed due to the outbreak. They also said that if you are within 50 feet of someone's cough who is infected, you are in danger. Also( I hate this part too), even if you had a flu shot this year, as we did, after six months another may be necessary. I am keeping my fingers crossed for all of us who have plans for our Vegas trips in the next few weeks....may we all stay healthy..I cringe every time I see a post on here from someone being ill..before, during and after their trip..and there have been quite a few..

You are right, there have been many posts of people being ill on their Vegas trips. It makes me want to stock up on Airbourn, hand sanitizer and even bring lysol with to spray my room!

Does Airborne work? I am always paranoid about flying with all the gross recycled air. We are flying as a family (me, hubby, our two children 7 and 2) in a month and last year we had the HORROR story of the year with our then one year old! So....any preventative measures to keep us all out of the ER will be put to good use!

".I cringe every time I see a post on here from someone being ill..before, during and after their trip..and there have been quite a few.."

Maybe because people tend not post things saying " I did NOT get sick on my trip!"

Schools systems closing, catching stuff from people 50 feet away...flu shots aren't effective...boy, this thread is going to bring out every paranoid hypochondriac (sp?) on the Internet lol.

Airbourn doesn't hurt. I take it alot, and whether it's all in my head or not, I continue to use it. I take it before we go to our local casino boat, and I bring a little bottle of antibacterial hand wash with me. They say when you fly you should consume alot of water, I just add airbourn to mine.

I agree. I cringe too when I read how someone was ill, then goes out to play slot machines....this contaminates everyone that then plays those slots, touches those chips, or even the elevator buttons.

I will just have to be fanatical about washing my hands. This will be the best way to keep from getting sick.

Good luck SmokeyMountainMan. Let's send good vibes to all of us with trips planned soon so that we may not get sick.

sage0401 - do they have it for kids? I am more worried about them than us. We do drink a lot of water (it is the profession I am in, incidentally) so that is good. Last year my one year old spiked a really high fever and in the ER in Havasu (possibly the WORST experience- and ER, doctors and nurses in my opinion EVER) - the doctor without even looking at our daughter's ears or test for the flu, said it might be meningitis and said we should do a spinal!!! Anyway, we did not opt to do that Thank Goodness! It was HORRIBLE and I shutter everytime I think about it! As we were leaving he was chowing on a snickers and I wanted him to choke he was such a jerk! As you can see, I am still really bugged by it. Enough rambling just anything to avoid illness this year!

I still have the flu...started on Wed. p.m. and I'm gradually getting better. Dr. says that the worst part lasts about 4 days. I can't remember when I've been so sick. Thurs and Fri were terrible...so...GET YOUR FLU SHOTS if you have not done so...especially for those going to Vegas where there are so many people and for breathing recirculated airplane air. I started a sinus infection during my last day in Vegas two yrs. ago. That could be due to sinuses being so dry and inflamed that bacteria could not leave.

They do have it for kids and they have ones like gummy bears. Don't know if they'd like them though. It caught my attention that you live in Hudson. I was there for a cousin's wedding a while back. Nice place!

Try a simple disposable face mask (N95 is even better), a pretty effective barrier against germs in the air (and recycled air).
