Saturday Afternoon Feb. 23rd
So, we get back from our ATV tour around 2pm. Renee is kicking back relaxing in the room after spending some time (and money...mostly money actually) in the casino. I jump in the shower to wash the dust off and throw my ATV clothes in a plastic bag. They really weren't as dirty as I expected. I decided that since Renee backed out of the ATV tour, that her and I would spend the remainder of the day together doing whatever she wanted to do. I know, I know...I'm the best boyfriend on the planet! Hehehe. She really wants to see Hart & Huntigton Tattoo shop, and I tell her that the Palms is kinda neat, so we jump in a cab and head on over.. Of course Renee, being a bit naive, decides to tell the cabbie that this is her first time in a taxi! As soon as the words are outta her mouth, I figure we're gonna get long-hauled! Well, we did...kinda. Traffic was bad, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but it ended up being almost a $20 cab ride from Bally's to the Palms. No biggie...I'm a pretty easy going guy, besides it was worth the $20 just to get away from that windbag! He basically told us his life story (including a lot of info I didn't want or need to hear!). We check out Hart & Huntington, consider getting inked ourselves, but figure the price would be outrageous due to the notoriety of the place. So we both settle for an overpriced t-shirt. Renee spots a penny Wheel of Fortune, which she can't seem to walk past without donating some cash, so we sit down and I quickly burn through $30-$40 without even getting to spin the wheel! I feel violated and consider sending hatemail to Pat Sayjack. Renee hits a decent jackpot for a little over $100, so she's happy as a clam. We take a stroll though the Palms until she decides she wants to see the aquarium at Mandalay Bay. I'd never been inside the place, so I'm down for it. We grab anothe (much cheaper) cab and cruise on down.
First impressions are that Mandalay Bay is a pretty nice joint. I'd probably never stay there, just due to its location, but I did like it. Of course, I couldn't resist getting a few candid photos taken with the set of boobs on the wall. I forget the name of the place, but I'm sure if you've been there, you know where I'm talkin about. We grab our tickets and take a leisurely stroll through the aquarium. I've certainly been in better ones, but it's not so bad. She enjoys it, so that's what really matters. Of course she insists that we buy the cheesy pictures they took of us before entering (she's into that sort of thing), so we get them and decide to catch the free tram over to NYNY.
NYNY was fun. We took a spin on the roller coaster (kinda chilly, and way overpriced, but fun), and stopped in at Coyote Ugly for a few minutes before walking accross to MGM to try to sneak a peak at the lions. I always forget just how massive this place is! Nice, but just huge! Renee stops in at the gift shop for the Rainforest Cafe to pick up a few gifts for her neice and nephew, and we start the loooong walk through MGM. We did catch a glimpse (and only a glimpse) of the lioness on display, as soon after we arrived, she jumped through a waterfall and disappeared behind the rocks. Renee was a little bummed, since we only got one photo. We waited around for ahwile, until we realized the frisky little feline probably wasn't going to make an appearance anytime soon.
By this time, our feet are killin us, so we decide to take the tram back to Bally's and rest for a little while. On the way back up to the room, I check at the Sports Book to see how I made out on my Pittsburgh Penguins bet, only to discover they had lost in a shootout in overtime! Grrrrr....this is the second game of our trip that I lost, both went to OT (the Flyers on Friday)! I give up. No more sports bets for me! Well, at least no more Pennsylvania hockey teams! LOL
We head back to the room and rest for a few minutes, then decide to go down to the Sidewalk Cafe for some dinner.
Food was good, service was actually very good (kinda unusual for this place). Renee wasn't feeling spectacular, so she just wanted some toast, and I ordered a pasta dish. The waiter brought out an additional plate, and said not to worry about the $10 charge for splitting meals. She didn't want any anyway, but it was nice of him, so I left him a nice tip. At this point, we're both just kinda draggin, so we head back top the room again for a rest (wink wink). She, of course falls asleep, which in turn causes me to fall asleep outta boredom.
We're woken up by my cell phone a little after midnight. A call from our now thoroughly polluted friends whoopin' it up at the Piano Bar over in Paris. We decide to get up and go join them for a few drinks, and we're glad we did! Great fun! These guys had the crowd into it, the alcohol flowin, and the good times rollin! Around 2am the rest of the gang has had enough and they stumble off to bed, but Renee and I, refreshed from our nap (and feelin' pretty snazzy from the Jagerbombs and Long Islands) strut on over to the Bally's casino...feelin no pain! LOL
Neither of us have ever played Roulette before, but the nice lady at the Rapid Roulette table is calling us over to try our luck, and by this point...well, we're a sucker for just about anyone with a microphone! We take a seat, drop a $20 each and try desperately to figure out how the hell to play this game! We catch on pretty quickly, and we both play on the same $20 bill for a few hours. Renee finally bottoms out, and I continue to play for ahwile, until I see that it's now 5:30am, and we're supposed to meet for breakfast at 8am! LOL. Feeling pretty bold at this point (excellent coctail service at the Rapid Roulette by the way), I put all $26 on red! I know..I know...high roller, huh? LOL. Well, red hits, I collect and we stumble off to pass out for a few (and I do mean a few) hours!
More to come later....
