Craps how to play

I have never played before and would love to learn as I have been told it is easy to make a profit. Anyone got any good tips for a beginner? I don't want to make big bets just small ones atleast until I get the hang of it.

Its been mentioned on here that some hotels will offer free craps lessons in the morning. I dont remember which ones but I am sure someone will!

STOP

I love to play craps and was very recently introduced to the game. It's a fun game (sans the superstitions) and you 'can' do alright, but you can also lose your butt quickly.

I suggest using one of the many good sights the veteran craps players will post here for you to learn the game before dropping a load of dough on the felt.

First of all, lose the idea that you are going to win a bunch of money. For your first time at the craps table, you'll be doing well if you break even. Remember that the odds are always in the casino's favor.

It is a good idea to practice online before your trip and understand the various bets and odds. You can certainly attend one of the many free lessons the casinos have, but that will be helpful more for learning table etiquette (where to put your hands etc.) than for really understanding the game.

The good news is that the best bets ont he table are also some of the simplest. So you don't need to understand all of the complcated fancy bets in order to play. For your first time, you can stick with the Pass Line bet and the Pass Line with odds. I would recommend going somewhere like Gold Coast that has low table minimums so your money will last longer.

Finally, more good news: There is a superstition among craps players that female "virgin" or first-time players are good luck. So, do not hesitate to say that it's your first time. The dealers will help you also. If you play in the morning, you will find the lowest table limits, it will be a more relaxed atmosphere and the dealers will be able to help you more.

Hope that is helpful.

Craps can be fun and at first it can be quite confusing. You can also ask around at the casino, as I know some of them offer lessons on the games they offer. They are free and will give you a general overview and maybe take the fear out of it for you.

As far as superstitions go, many people who play craps do not like to hear the word s-e-v-e-n spoken at or around the table, so if you have to talk about it, call it "red". ;-)

I love Craps!!! Played it for the first time last July and we had a blast!! Wizard of odds site is very informative with out being confusing and has a practice game you can try out. Once DH and I got a hang of it we played WAY conservatively!! What others have said is true, you can loose your butt real fast if you throw out a bunch of bets everytime. Just go up to a table and watch- Look for one with a bunch of people around and watch how they bet on the Pass line and right behind it after the point is established- You'll figure it out and see that it is a ton of fun!! Have a great time!!

We took crap lessons at the Monte Carlo and would highly recommend it. Dealers are friendly and they have practice games before you go out and lose real $$$. :)

Check with the hotel for days and times. They're in the mornings.

Hey ya'll, first off - find a table that the dealers look friendly and pleasant and not too busy. Let the dealer know you are a beginner but don't go in there completely ignorant of the basic bets. Tip when you win something.

Pass-line bets are the starting bet for most players. Always back up your bet with full odds. $5 pass line bet with 2x odds means $5 bet with $10 odds behind the line. Pass line bets are contract bets and can't be taken down. Odds can be picked up at anytime.

Place bets are bets placed on a specific number 4,5,6,8,9,10 are place bet #'s. Place these bets if you want to control the #'s you have and when you want to take them down. You can take down place bets at anytime

Come bets are placed in the Come area after you have a point established. Lots of folks prefer this bet, it is the same as a additional pass-line bet odds and all. Ask the dealer for the odds amount and they stay until the point is won or the 7 comes and the house wins everything.

Prop bets are in the center of the table and high odds in the houses favor. Field beets are one roll bets and only represent 16 of the 36 possible combination of rolls of the dice. Not good odds, some people like the field - I think of it as the best bad bet. It is a sucker bet.

Craps is a rollercoaster game. Be able to ride through the dips to get to the high times.

Have fun - take the free lessons at the casino and don't let the mean dealers touch your $$$.

Cheers,

CS

First time at the table just play the pass line. Watch the game and how others bet, maybe ask a question or two, but just stick with a good old pass line bet until you get more comfortable.
