2nd thoughts on Luxor

Ok, I got a really great rate at Luxor....4 nights Memorial week ( Mon-Thrs ) in a pyramid room for a total including tax of $300.

I know the hotel is doing some renovations and such and now I've just read that they are planning on moving the Titanic and Bodies exhibits from Tropicana to Luxor sometime very soon.

I'm starting to wonder if I should relocate. We don't spend much time in the room while in Vegas anyway but I don't want to have to dodge a lot of construction while there or worry about noise while we are trying to sleep.

My question is....should I pay a little more and move to a tower room or cancel the Luxor and change to another hotel?

I've stayed at the Riviera, MGM, TI, Excalibur and Hard Rock on previous trips and want to stay someplace different but I also don't want to pay more than about $400 for the 4 nights were there either. I got the really good rate at Luxor on an email promotion.

I've thought about Bally's or maybe NYNY or even Monte Carlo. I am aware of lots of construction in that area of the strip so as long as my room is quiet while we're sleeping, construction doesn't matter that much. A view from the room would be nice but it's not that big a deal.

What do you all think?

Construction is a fact of life in Vegas and it's impossible to avoid it altogether. What needs to be remembered though is that the hotels are experts in carrying out all the construction ensuring that the impact on their guests is minimal or even non-existant.

I wouldn't worry too much and I wouldn't cancel the Luxor because of this. By all means move to a tower room but only because you feel it's a better room, not as a result of possible construction.

Ballys might be a good option for you, since all the construction is on the other side of the strip.

I would go with Ballys if it were me, I love to stay there, the north tower rooms are huge and very clean and comfortable. It has a central location and is connected to Paris which is a plus.

My kids are in Vegas right now at NYNY and they said the rooms there are nice but a little small.

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip!

I've stayed in the Pyramid before and hated it. Because of the building shape you cannot open the windows in your room. The elevator is a rough ride which thrust up at a diagonal. Not good after a few drinks.

The biggest issues is because the lobby/casino is full of smokers... there is no where for the smoke to go up. Into the "non smoking" rooms. If you are sensitive to smoke it will make you ill.

You can smell it in the very fibers of your pillows, the curtains, the wall paper. It was horrible.

If you are not sensitive to smoke, and you don't get motion sick... you may really enjoy it. We enjoyed the hotel and the pool. Just not our room.

Well, you bring up a good point about the smoke.

Today marks my 80th day of being a quitter! I smoked for 26 years and am now smoke free.

I've noticed when I go to the local casino here at home, the smoke bothers me a little but the worst is the fact that it just makes me jones even more for a cigarette. I'm already worried that I might relaps while in Vegas so maybe I'd better upgrade to a tower room when I check in. Maybe I'll get an upgrade for free? I think my promo said I could upgrade to a suite for an additional $35 per night but I think I would rather be in a tower room where the smoke won't be such an issue.

I guess I'll keep checking rates at some other hotels and see if I can do any better at another hotel.

Thanks all for your advice. TA Rocks!!!

Are you considering off strip at all? Red Rock, a 4.5 star hotel, has a rate of $69 for those nights at Hotwire.

I have found my favorite reply of the week:

"I've stayed in the Pyramid before and hated it. Because of the building shape you cannot open the windows in your room."

Ummm, I don't think the building shape makes the windows impossible to open. I think they just put in windows that don't open. Do they really want people trying to slide down the outside of the pyramid?

"The elevator is a rough ride which thrust up at a diagonal. Not good after a few drinks."

I was expecting that from other reviews, but that isn't what I found. I couldn't even tell they were moving. Yeah, lets put in dangerous inclinators in the hotel so we can harm our guests.

"The biggest issues is because the lobby/casino is full of smokers... there is no where for the smoke to go up. Into the "non smoking" rooms. If you are sensitive to smoke it will make you ill."

What??? Can you make that into complete thoughts and sentences so we can understand? The smoke has nowhere to go up, so it hunts out the non smoking rooms and hides in there? I guess you can't get good ventilation in the casino if you can't even put in windows that open.

Thanks for the laugh.

congrats on being smoke free. I was there recently and didn't notice the smoke nearly as much as some of the other hotels.

I think I'd stay at the Luxor just because of the price and originality of the place.

Smoke is everywhere.
