First trip to Vegas

I've gone onto the Harrah's web site and put in our Total Reward number and come up with comp'd stays or incredibly cheap stays at the following Vegas hotel/casions. Which do you recommend for our first trip and why?

Rio, Harrah's, Paris, Flamingo, Bally's, and Imperial Palace.

Thanks for any responses!

Without knowing a little bit about you and what you look for in a hotel it's hard to be specific but of the Harrah's properties you list I'd personally recommend Paris for a first visit. It's a classy hotel in an ideal central location. However if a good pool area is very important for you, I'd lean towards Flamingo.

I'd pick Paris or Flamingo also.

Rio looks nice, but is off strip.

Stay away from Imperial Palace.

We just walked through the place and it felt gross.

Elaine, there was a very similar question posted earlier today that might get some good information/ opinions from so I'm posting the link here. That's only help I can really give as I've never stayed in a Harrah's property. I'm having my first Harrah's stay in April.

Rio has the biggest, nicest rooms by far, a mini-refrig, dressing area, 2 sinks/countertops, and great pool area and restaurants. Half mile off strip, frequent shuttles to Ballys mid strip.

Ballys, older, well kept up, spacious rooms, on monorail, old-school pool, connected to Paris, most central location

Flamingo, older, central, nice but crowded pool, rooms standard size. Great gardens give a nice ambiance. Restaurants substandard but near good ones.

Paris..newer, large but plain pool area, pool not well heated..rooms very good, but not especially large. Central, good restaurants, nice overall

IP is not to be considered

I agree with everyone else - Paris for the rooms or Flamingo for the pool. Rio is too far away from the strip and stay away from Imperial Palace. Ballys has nothing to offer.

I've spend a few days in each...

Bally's or Flamingo are the most central and either one will be fine. Average rooms are not bad at all.

Rio has the best rooms but is not a convenient place to stap even withthe free shuttle.

Imperial Palace needs to be imploded. Need I say more?

Harrah's is passable and seems to have the busiest casino for some reason.

For a first timer Bally's if you can get a room facing the strip.

But then again, how much time will you actually be in your room?

Unless you're staying a really long time, I wouldn't change hotels. There's too much to do in Vegas to waste time moving (just my opinion, of course).

First trip . . . definitely stay on the strip (which only rules out Rio). You simply cannot BEAT the location of Flamingo, and if a grant pool experience is important to you, they get high marks there.

Paris is a bit farther south but is a newer, most would say nicer, property.

Harrah's is a fun spot . . . but IMO always very busy and seems almost chaotic.

IP . . . avoid with a passion.

I really don't have much opinion about Bally's other than the location is good.

Coffeemug is correct re Bally's. It's location is the main selling point and the rooms are pretty nice. If a nice pool is a must, consider the others. Bally's is connected to Paris by a little mall and as Low said yesterday in another post, you can have the best of both Paris and Bally's...as far as casinos, restaurants and location. I cannot comment on the others for the rooms. Rio is not on strip but you can get a free shuttle from any Harrah's property to the Rio location.
