Leaving for Vegas in 4 days- 1st time

Meeting a friend from boston and a friend from Chicago on Friday mid-day, have to leave on Sunday to get back for work. Its three 24 year old guys, none of really that into the club scene, but like to gamble a good deal. Thinking of a gambling budget of around 400 a day. Advice, tips, must-do's etc? Thanks in advance!

Stick with what you know as far as gambling and save the unfamiliar for smaller "donations"...lol

Sounds like you should have a lot of fun. One mistake I'll never make again is drink a lot and gamble at the same time. Strip hotels/casinos are really huge inscale. Get a good map and to choose some priorities. You don't have much time.

Pick a hotel with a central location so you are in the middle of things.

Check the review here and at cheapovegas.

As wisely said above, don’t drink so much that you will do something stupid, since you will anyway, take a sober moment and minimize your risk, use the safe or safe deposit for your house keys, return plane info and everything that you don’t need in your pocket and/or can’t afford to lose in Las Vegas.

Better yet clean out your wallet ahead of time, all you will really need is cash, a picture ID (better yet bring a spare) and credit cards.

Be aware that in any tourist area there are bad guys and bad girls looking for 3 guys looking to have a good time so don’t carry all your money, credit cards etc. with you.

Don’t fall for any scams if it sounds too good to be true. then it probably is.

Hard Rock might appeal to your age group.

It is getting to be pool weather.

Use sun block or you will fry.

Drink lots of water and remember to eat.

If you don’t understand the game as well as you understand your job, don’t bet big on it.

Small bit of fatherly advice, or advice on how not to be one, latex is your friend.

Don’t under estimate the need for comfy shoes, a blister will ruin your trip.

Have fun.

It is tempting to gamble at the "big" casinos. I advise not to. Go over to O'Sheas next to Flamingo. You guys will fit right in. Drinks come fast and often, the place is not big huge confusing, and its a great vibe. Lots of younger people there. The casino-resort-mall places are great to see and have lots to offer. Shows, great dinning, architecture, etc. But slots tend to be tighter, table limits higher. Take a shot at Downtown Vegas, Fremont street. Do some gambling there for at least a night. Fun.

Staying at the Mirage, got a really good rate. Mostly focusing on Blackjack- we all grew up around Memphis, so Tunica, MS is not that far away, and where we learned the rules, games, etc.

Funny line about the latex- oddly enough, 3 serious gf's who aren't making the trip, so hopefully we won't have to worry about that (I know I won't at least). O'Sheas sounds like where we would spend a lot of time after just seeing the sights. Thanks!

Chitown speaks words of wisdom! Take heed!

"Don’t fall for any scams if it sounds too good to be true. then it probably is.

Use sun block or you will fry."

Also, Take lip balm and drink lots of water!

The bit I especially like is "If you don’t understand the game as well as you understand your job, don’t bet big on it.

Small bit of fatherly advice, or advice on how not to be one, latex is your friend."

Ahh so true,,,,

Excellent advice Chitown!!

I'm sure you guys will have a great time - especially all meeting up from different places for a weekend of fun.

Since it's a relatively short trip don't ruin it by drinking too much and nursing hangovers the whole time.

Is that unrealistic advice for 24 yr olds?? =)

Have fun!

Thanks for the kind words.

By all means a trip Downtown may be in order. Lots of casinos right next to each other, like stores in a mall. Everything is cheaper Downtown, food, drink, gaming etc. I understand that, with the exception of the Vegas Club, the rules for BJ are more favorable too.

$400.00 a day just for fun sounds like a lot but in the major places on the strip that won't last very long at all for that is the land of the $25.00 and up minimun table bet. $400.00 a day will go much farther Downtown.

Downtown try Hogs and Heifers, Micky Finz also the area outside the canopy, the Beauty Bar and Griffin, low table minimuns at the El Cortez and ultra low roller fun at the Western Casino, if you dare. Just be sure to head back to the canopy or at least the El Cortez, before dark.
