Going alone - will it still be fun?

This trip was originally planned with someone I was dating and that's now not the case, though we're still friends.

We'll be platonically sharing a room the 2nd two days (he'll be tied up all the time in a pool tournament going on). I made reservations for myself at Circus Circus for the first 2 days. (I know, I know - I hadn't yet discovered this forum when I made the reservations - I was going entirely for price - not much of a travel budget here, what can I say?)

I decided not to cancel the trip because hey, it's still my birthday and I deserve the vacation! And I'm an independant woman who is not afraid to do things on her own. But will I stand out like a sore thumb in Vegas eating alone and going clubbing alone? I'm assuming I'll meet lots of people by the pool and perhaps meet friends I can go places with. Is this likely?

The last thing I want is to be sitting alone at a bar and get mistaken for a working girl because I'm alone. Yikes!

Of course it will still be fun-even if you are alone! I almost always go alone-by choice. You get to do what you want, when you want, where you want and how you want to do it! Being alone does not have any bearing on what I do in Vegas. If I want to do something- I do it. It is no different than going with other people. I eat at the restaurants I want to eat at- whether they be the more expensive ones or the cheapies- and I see the shows I want to see. Some people do prefer to eat at the buffets or at bars when alone. I don't feel that way- I deserve better. If it is a restaurant with a white tablecloth- I want to eat at that table with that white tablecloth! Why should I deprive myself just because I am alone?

It is easy to make temporary friends in Vegas. People love to talk about themselves and where they are from. Just disregard you mom's advice- DO talk to strangers. You won't stick out like a sore thumb. Many people go to Vegas(or any other place in this world) alone nowadays. Even people who go with other people split up some time during their trip. I don't go to clubs anymore (too old) but I go everywhere else alone and I have never felt awkward, bored or lonely! Ever!!

You are going to have a great trip!

I believe anyone can have fun anywhere.

Doubtful you'll meet people at the pool you can go places with - but what do i know? Try it.

Not everyone itting alone at a bar is mistaken for a working girl - and so what if you are? In about 10 seconds you can male it clear you're not.

Switch hotels - that's the biggest hurdle to you having fun, alone or not. it's bad and not conducive to meeting people - pool or otherwise.

happy birthday

I've been in Vegas solo and also with my husband or friends. I've had a great time the times I've been there solo. I'm also the kind who is quite happy to do things alone, I enjoy my own company. You'll be fine, there are loads of people in Vegas on their own.

Right on vp03! I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said.

Vegas is full of solo travelers and I have never noticed, or cared, who is alone or who is with someone when I hang out there.

I, personally, prefer to go solo. I hate having others hanging around and whining about one thing or another.

Thanks so much for the great responses! Somehow I imagined this magical place where everyone was with someone already, but it sounds like it won't really be any different than going places alone here at home.

I am the Queen of My Remote at home, so why not be while on vacation? lol

I can't wait!

Switch hotels - you will be highly disappointe din Circus Circus - many of the nicer hotels have soem great week day deals, shop around directly on the hotel websites not the travel sites - CC and the hotels around it like Riviera are depressing. Worse case if you have to stay at CC , hang elsewhere

You are going to have a blast in Vegas regardless of where you stay! I have been a couple of times with my husband who was attending a convention which left me alone for most of the week. I had an awesome time and would have no problem going to Vegas solo. Circus Circus is a little far down the strip but I have heard the rooms are not all that bad. On a first trip I doubt you will spend much time in your room anyway. Hope you have a great vacation ;)

CC is on the north part of the strip away from most of the attractions, restaurants and shows. If you can change the hotel then do so. If you can't-don't sweat it. The whole point of being in Vegas is to get out there and experience all the other casinos, restaurants, etc. Nobody is confined to their own hotel- what fun would that be? You can take the Deuce or a cab to mid strip. Where are you staying the other two days?

I took your advice (others have mentioned the same on other posts, too) and cancelled at Circus Circus. I found a room at the Stratosphere for less, and like the idea of the adult-only pool there, too. I have enough kids running around the pool screaming here at my apartment complex.... lol

The other 2 nights will be at the Riviera. That was predetermined because of sharing the room and the pool tournament going on there.

Even though I'm still at one end of the strip, I take comfort in the fact that my job requires me to walk 3-5 miles per day, so I won't mind the extra steps to see the things I want to.
