Day 1 Arrival

Uneventful four and a half flight from Raleigh-Durham. Arrived on a chilly Saturday evening. Politely told the cab driver "Flamingo and no tunnel please" and he said uhhh, okay. $12 plus tip.

Thankfully we have the Total Rewards Platinum Card which does have a few little perks which includes express check-in. We checked into the Flamingo on Saturday evening about 7:30 and they did not have any renovated standard rooms. Note: Saturday evening is not a good time to be checking in on a Holiday weekend (Memorial Day), Got to the room and it was not clean. Looked up at the air return vent and it was filthy. It looked like the original air filter from when the hotel was built. Tried calling downstairs to get a different room, but couldn't get anyone, so we hightailed it back downstairs and back into express check-in and got a new room and then back upstairs and did the room channge thing. This room was adequate, nothing special by any means, but adequate and would be our home for the week.

Played the slots and VP til about 1am. My newest favorite game is Joke Poker, which would be my game of choice for most of the week. Broke even on JP and lost my day's allowance plus some on the slots.

Day 2 Indy 500 and Sigma Derby

Breakfast at The Tropical Breeze Cafe which was very good as usual. Played some keno during breakfast. Broke even.

Weather was very chilly so it was not a pool day. Placed a few bets on The Indy 500 and hungout in the Flamingo Sporsbook for the afternoon while DW played the slots. Of course, no one I bet on won but it was fun watching the race.

That evening we took a taxi to MGM and we finally found The Sigma Derby after looking and looking for it. It's really not hard to find. We walked by it and did not see it. Anyways, I played Sigma Derby off and on for about three hours and DW played for about 1 hour. For those not familiar with Sigma Derby, it is an electro-mechanical horse race game that will accomodate up to ten players who can buy-in with quarters and bet on the five horses, betting on two horses to come in first and second in any order and the game pays out according to the odds. Great fun and fun to watch other adults hollerin' for these little horses as they come around the track. One man was hollerin' for his horse which he had bet a quarter on at nine to one odds. When his horse won, he said wow, I just won two dollars and twenty-five cents!, laughing at himself.Great drink service at SD. Had a great time at MGM playing SD and then some slots. Really liked the feel of MGM.

We then headed over to NYNY and played some slots and JP there and ate at America, a nice cafe there. Food was good.

Back to The Flamingo for some late night slots and JP.

Thanks BhamBound. It was a lot of fun and some relatively cheap entertainment.

Day 3 Margaritaville, The Bahamas and Terribles.

Had breakfast at Margaritaville on the upper patio. DW and I both had the Eggs Benedict. Beautiful morning and a great setting for breakfast. Breakfast was very good. I will post the menu, pics, and prices at a later date on another thread or perhaps as a response on this thread.

Spent the afternoon at the pool. Tried to talk DW into going to the topless pool saying it would be good to get away from all the kids, but she didn't buy it, so we went to the regular pool. Loungers were very hard to come by, but finally found two together. Great pool weather. We usually go to Vegas in August, so we were digging this May weather. Not too hot and not too cool.

That evening we caught a cab to Bahama Breeze Restaurant which is about three blocks from the Strip near the intersection of Flamingo Road and Paradise Road. Sat at the bar and had a few Aruba Reds, which is an amber lager brewed especially for Bahama Breeze. Enjoyed a few of those potent boys and then had dinner at the bar. DW had the salmon with island rice and I had the Jamaican spiced wings. Both were very good. DW said her salmon was some the best she's ever had. Excellent service by the bartenders.

After dinner we managed to get across the road to Terrible's Casino without getting run over. We joined the players club there and got our freebie stuff including our Terrible's hats which I managed to quickly lose due to too many Aruba Reds. This is definitely a locals casino. Defintely not The Bellagio! Played for a while and I did manage to walk out a little ahead due to hitting a 5X/5X/Bar on a wheel of futune slot. It was fun there and I enjoyed it. DW wasn't too crazy about the place. She said she was afraid someone was going to grab her pocketbook and go running out the door. When we left, the taxis were not exactly lined up outside. The attendant outside was able to round us up one and we made it safely back to The Flamingo for some late night JP and slots and keno and whatever.

Day 4 Paris and a Taste of Italy

Breakfast at the Paris buffet. First time there for the buffet. It was good as advertised. One thing I did not like was the bottleneck at the omelet station. Too many people waiting for their eggs there, so I passed on the freshly cooked eggs, which I really missed. Not really into the buffets, so probably won't make a return visit anytime soon.

Another beautiful pool day with too many people and too few loungers at the pool. Don't know where they would put anymore loungers anyway with it being so crowded.

Had dinner plans for Casa di Amore with a limo pick-up time set for 8:30. At 8:28, they came rollin' in and off we went. Great Italian restaurant with that "Old Vegas" feel and live music. Sat at the bar and played VP and keno and had comped drinks for about two hours. The service at the bar was excellent-Great Bartender. We then ordered dinner at the bar and I must say that it was excellent. We both had the eggplant parmesian which comes with a salad and bread. Not sure how much DW put into the VP machine but I put $40 in and cashed out $50. Made a ten dollar profit plus comped drinks for the evening. Plus we got a 25% discount off our bill because we sat at the bar. Really loved Casa di Amore. Great atmospere. Can't wait to go back.

Limo took us back to the Strip and dropped us off at Paris where we played for a while. DW did well on the slots and didn't do so well on my Joker Poker. Played for a while and headed on back to Flamingo for some late night gaming.

Great report so far Artemus. I love hearing about different places that are off the strip from people who have been there.

Great TR so far. You've hit some of my favorites (America, Sigma Derby, Paris breakfast buffet, Casa di Amore), looking forward to the rest.

I intend to cite you as proof of my contention that if you need to switch rooms it is always harder for them to ignore you if you show up at the front desk in person. Glad you got it taken care of.
