The old Landmark Hotel

We were in Vegas 10 years ago, and everytime we walked north on the strip this spaceship-shaped hotel caught my eye and intrigued me. I kinda wanted to visit, but we had other things to do. I wish it hadn't been imploded since it was an interesting building. I suppose the Strat is its natural successor in the "space age" theme.

Here's a pic:

Anyone here have any memories of the Landmark? It looks like the rooms were in the tower part, but what was at the top? The casino?

I remember it... First trip to LV stayed at LV Hilton, overlooking the Landmark. Don't know what was at the top, though.

Try this site:

This is a great site for anyone who wants to know the history of Vegas hotels and the people associated with them.

According to this site:

The topmost floor of the structure was occupied by a plush nightclub which provided a panoramic view of the city. The dance floor could accomodate 250 patrons. Two restaurants occupied the dome-Landmark's Mandarin Room whch specialized in Chinese food and The Prime Rib Room. The dome covered over an acre of area and one could go there by a special glass-enclosed outside express elevator that travelled non-stop.

Thats why the place was BLOWN UP. They ripped off MY trade-marked name "The Prime Rib Room" from Ted's of Beverly Hills. Ted Bell showed them Vegas guys whose got the juice!

Sorry Ted - that name is not trademarked. Perhaps you'd like to consult with my attorney, Rutherford B. Freckle of Santa Fe -- he'd happily charge you $500/hr. to get the name trademarked.

I stayed there in the 70's when I was there for a convention. From what I remember (too many hotel rooms over the years), the rooms reminded me of the Holiday Inn round towers.

I know I went up to the top for a drink but don't remember anyting about it.

Years ago, my parents had a coupon for the buffet at the Landmark. It was on the first floor. Yes, it was cheap, but you got what you paid for---one of the worst buffets I ever went to!

If you ever saw the movie "Mars Attacks!", you will see the Landmark being imploded.
