Oh great ones of the Forum:

I first would like to thank you a ton for all of your tips, tricks and especially your entertaining trip reports of Vegas. If I’m having a lousy day at work I just get on and read one and remember what fun Vegas is. I have been a lurker on this board for over a year and value your opinions and suggestions.

I am going to do the Vegas marathon in Dec and had planned to stay that week. I just realized that I have a 2nd week of vacation that will expire at the end of the year and had a wild idea to do two weeks (17 days including weekends) in Vegas. Am I crazy? Is it too much? My other option would be LA but it’s Dec and I only like Cali in the summer when I can surf.

A little background on me: I’m 27, female, probably traveling alone, budget of $150.00 a day on fun stuff and shopping. I have been to Vegas once and sky dived. I am staying on the strip at a few different hotels (Mirage, Paris, etc) and will not have a car but am not afraid to do public transport or limo. I don’t mind the travel alone since I have a few friends in and around Vegas that will come see me run at least.

I composed a mini schedule to see if it was doable and I wouldn’t get bored. Let me know if you think I’m a crazy woman or if I should go for it! Also, if anyone has any insider info on the Vegas marathon I would appreciate that too!

(Plans are for day time hours late evenings I will hit clubs or other places)

Fri Arrive early AM, Go to Marathon Expo

Sat More Expo, Pasta party, early to bed

Sun Marathon (If your in town come cheer me on!)

Mon Rest and sleep and hope my legs don’t fall off

Tues Freemont Street

Wed Freemont Street, Strat, and Circus Circus

Thurs Luxor, Excalibur, and NYNY

Fri Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Caesars

Sat Mirage, TI, Fashion Show Mall

Mon Grand Canyon or Red Rock or both

Tues PH, Paris, Ballys

Wed Bill’s Flamingo, Imperial Palace

Thurs Harrah’s, Royal, Venetian

Fri Wynn, Sahara

Sat Rio, Palms

Sun Fly home about 2pm

You are asking us?????? LOL

Of course you are NOT crazy!!! You are about the same age as our kids, and I know they would love to spend 17 days there if they could financially afford it!

i personally think that 17 days is a bit too long. now mind you the longest i have stayed is 4 nights/5 days, but that's because i go about 5-6 times a year. after the 4th night, my body is wrecked, but i guess i'm drinking a little too much though.

with a $150/day budget doesn't seem like much for 14 days worth of activities. if you don't gamble much, then you'll run out of things to see. for example, downtown, without gambling, wouldn't take more than a few hours to see. haven't heard from others on this site, and friends & family, i think 10 days in vegas would be enough to do everything.

i think you should definitely head out to la for a few days, even though it is winter. you can pretty much surf year-round here too, it's definitely colder, but managable. that's what wet suits are for. if you ski, how about visiting some ski resorts in la. maybe a cabin rental in big bear? it just seems with so much vacation, it may be more fun to see more than what vegas alone has to offer. just my two cents, i'm sure you'll have a great time whatever you decide.

It would be too long for me personally, but to each his own...:) As far as itinerary, you could spend just one day DT and skip CC and Strat altogether. Maybe just a quick pop in, but certainly not all day. If you are on a budget, you may want to schedule more days at the pool or window shopping to fill the time.

$150 is just for shopping and junk to bring home with me. I'm not planning on buying designer stuff there, I can get it back home. My last trip I had to ship all my stuff I bought since it wouldn't fit in my cases. It doesn't include gambling budget or hotel room.

Honestly, all day to see two casinos is way overboard. You can probably walk thru 8-10 in one day and see just about everything, a non guest can see. Treat yourself to a lot of pool time. 5 days is the longest I would stay but I do go 3 times a year.

Dear jentsti, I am so pleased to hear you are going to Vegas for 17 days! we are going 6th November for 16 days. I also asked this question, and like you most said it was too long, but it is booked now, so we will have to make the most of it. We went to Vegas 7 years ago for 5 nights and found it was not long enough. We also spent 5 days in LA and 5 days in San Fran but found it too much of an upheaval packing and flying from place to place. So this time we are 'bedding' down for 16 days in The Signature. Also have hired a car for 6 days to go out and about. We love karaoke and look forward to meeting some very friendly Americans once again! Have a wonderful time, and please let us know what you think of your long stint out there! Regards.
