MGM - Too far?

Hi all,

So many questions!

I've noticed that MGM is very popular as a hotel and it is our preferred choice.

But we will be there at the end of May/beginning June. Is it so hot that our 10 and 12 year old daughters won't be able to walk to the main areas where the action is?

We won't have a car, and we will want to walk places - are we expecting to much of them to be able to walk from the MGM.

There! I've just asked the same question twice!! Must be because I'm a first timer from downunder!

Exactly what "action" do you want your 10 and 12 year olds to be a part of?

You are not seriously considering letting them walk around Las Vegas on their own?

If you are talking about walking "with" them, May/June will be hot but not unbearable, and they can go anyplace except into a bar or loiter in a casino.

There will be miles of walking no matter where you stay in Vegas, but there are lots of transportation options if you get tired. You can take the Deuce bus for 2.00 a ride or 5.00 for a 24 hour pass. You can take the monorail which has a stop at MGM. Or you can take a cab. You should be fine.

Warmwinds, I don't even let my daughters walk alone around our neighbourhood (which happens to be a good one)!

Never fair, just because we're downunder, we're not unaware of the dangers out there.

The question was asked because I don't want to hear "my feet hurt", "I want to sit down" every five minutes!

But you probably WILL hear that...you've chosen (so far) the largest property in Las Vegas, the MGM has over 5,000 rooms and it can be a hike just to get to places IN the property, much less walking to whatever "action" the family is looking for. :)

MGM is a good place to stay because the monorail stop is right there. Vegas is a place where you will do a lot of walking because the casinos are a block long. Well, you could cab it to each casino but that would be silly.

Thanks for that. This has definitely answered my question. I think MGM is our choice.

The MGM isn't too big to where you'll complain that your tired because I've walked from the signature to the nyny in no time. Also, take the monorail. It's a good deal and it gets me to the north strip.

My kids are a bit older now but at 8 and 12 I started letting them come with me on my trips to Vegas. The MGM was one of their favorite places. No your girls can not explore on their own for a while yet but there are plenty of things for them to do in the MGM and nearby.

The MGM has a lion habitat that they will love. The MGM is also across from NYNY, Excalibur, Tropicana, Luxor and Manadalay Bay. You can get to these hotels by going across walkways over the strip and there is a free Monarail from Excalibur, thru Luxor and Mandalay bay if you need it. Excalibur also has a great area downstairs for kids with carnival & Arcade games. The MGM also has an arcade and there is another arcade just north of the MGM.

Besides the wonderful things to see, good food, pools, and maybe a show your family should have a wonderful time and won't mind the walking so much.

There are way to many things to see and do so start with the close by and see if you have time for more.

Thanks. The more I hear, the more I'm convinced that MGM is the place to stay.

Can't thank you all enough.

As I said, our girls don't go anywhere on their own and half the fun is experiencing everything with them.

Can't wait - hope the time goes quickly.
