'free' drinks in the casinos

hi guys.

i know it will probably vary from casino to casino, but, whats the deal with free drinks at the casinos?

say, you're on a slot machine playing away, and get asked if you'd like a drink. a) how do you know if this is gratis, and is it good practice to tip the waitress?

While you are playing the slots, drinks are free. Also sitting at the bars playing VP, and at the tables. Do tip the CWs well and each time and they will return quicker and remember you.

Drinks are free at all casinos as as long as you are playing. This is for slots, video poker, or table games.

Always tip the cocktail waitress a couple of dollars. This is not only appreciated but will ensure that they come back quickly. I will generally tip a $5 bill for the first drink to make sure that they remember me and then tip a dollar or two for future drinks.

It will be free, and yes you must tip. At least $1 per drink, (we usually give $2-$3). You will need to tip several people during your stay: there are dozens of threads on this - just put "tipping" in the search box above and you'll get loads of info.

The only time drinks would not be free while you are gambling would be at sportsbooks and some video poker bars. At sportsbooks, you can ask the teller for a drink ticket when you place a bet - they may have limits on what bets qualify for a drink ticket.

At the video poker bars, some will insist that you put a minimum amount of money into the machine and play for a while in order to get a free drink. A few bars have stopped giving free drinks at all.

However, drinks at any gaming table or bank of slot machines should be free. You are expected to tip the waitress $1 or more per drink.

Many times that free drink can cost you $100 just waiting for it while your pumping a machine.

Veterans know what Im taking about.

the last time we were at the Wynn, I paid $80 for a beer! Or.....that is how much I lost while waiting for my drink to come.

We always have the best service at the tables, not the machines.

Everyone is perfectly correct, of course. However, I'll provide a little warning, drinks ARE absolutely free at the casino when brought to you, but not if you approach the bar and order one yourself (if you're not sitting there playing Video poker). I have been in the position before where I have been close to the bar and haven't seen a waitress in awhile and think I'll just stop by and order something myself from the bartender. They always charge me for it that way. I stopped doing that, believe me!!

Another thing the waitresses really appreciate is when you order something, go ahead and get out your tip money and have it READY when they come back by. It goes so much smoother.

Or if you're lucky, it could be the casino paying you for the drink. A couple of times I wanted a drink and the waitress said you had to be at a slot machine. So I just chose one, said I'll be here, popped in $20 and left with over $100.
