monorail questions?

Is it better to prepurchase tickets for the monorail or are the same deals listed on their website available upon arrival? Both of us really like to walk, but I thought it might be nice to have this as a backup. Thanks!

When we went last year they were offering $9/24 hours on line. When we got there it was the same deal in the machine at the station.

Took the monorail mainly to get way up north strip from south or center. Good thing you like to walk - because the monorail will not save you a lot of steps - it's usually a long walk from the stip to the station - naturally they put them in the farthest point of most hotels so you have to walk. Some even have th signs well hidden so you might get lost in their hotel and stay for a while ...lol

I was there last week. 12 bucks for 24 hrs from the machine. Go online and get them or find a coupon on the internet.

Looks like the 24 hour pass went up to $12 from the previous poster. Was $11 in June. Buy them online ahead of time. (Although in Vegas $3 isn't much!)

We bought the pass last week for $12 each.

Used it for a couple of hours , then sold it to some fellow travelers at the kiosk for $5 each.

So we got a deal and so did they.

I hope you are aware of the monorail route before you invest in tickets. The route is limited, so depending on where you are coming from and going to, it may or may not be of any help.

This issue comes up often on this forum, so perhaps you are aware of the route, but it seems many are surprised to find out the monorail won't be convenient to many spots on the Strip.

I personally found the monorail to be the biggest waste of time, money and energy. Be forewarned... it is not worth it, not even if it was free I wouldn't use it. I would take a cab instead.

The monorail can be very convenient for hotels on the east side of the Strip, especially if you're going from South Strip to North, or vice versa.

So, for example, to get from MGM to the Hilton, or the Sahara, it's great. In the heat of summer, I've even used it for "short hauls" like Flamingo to MGM and back.

For the properties on the west side of the Strip, it's not so useful. The monorail's position (running behind the east side hotels) means that to get to a hotel on the other side of the road, you have to walk all the way through the arriving hotel (Flamingo, Bally's, Harrah's, whatever) and then cross the road.

Not so useful. But if you understand the route and where it can take you, it's still one of the better deals in town.

And I've never had a problem finding the stations inside the casinos. Sure, it's a long walk from the front entrance; but all of the casinos on the monorail route have signs pointing you in the right direction.
