Seriously.....why did I know this would happen (MGM)?

Okay, so, I could use some advice from some well seasoned individuals.

I had a room booked at NYNY for four nights in November for a MUCH NEEDED getaway with my DH. The rate we had was not bad, but I received an offer from MGM Grand online through my Players Card with no details...so, I call them today to get the details on the offer, and we could get all four nights for $320, including a weekend, which was notably better than what we had NYNY for. This is a good offer for us, being the VERY low rollers we are. While, as many of you know, it is there policy you cannot book one property until you cancel the other...so, I do cancel, and in the meantime, we are talking 15 minutes max - truly, and I call back to book the offer and low and behold, now there is a "restriction" on that Saturday night. Now instead of $89, it is $179. So, they tell me there is nothing they can do for me, and she even puts me on hold to check, I had the same girl and she remembered the conversation from 15 minutes prior, still no go. I am S O L.

Please, withhold any snotty comments, I am not in the mood, any advice for me other than to keep checking back? I would much rather spend that $90 at the table and "try my luck"....I have never stayed there, and that was enough of a gamble.

My bad, I meant "their" policy.

That sucks. Could you have booked the new offer under your husband's name and then cancelled the other one?

I'm sorry but I don't have any advise other than maybe calling a host?

Good luck.

I never heard of the policy of not being able to book until your other reservation is cancelled. In fact, before my visit in August we were originally booked into the Monte Carlo, but decided on staying at MGM instead because of the construction around MC's pool. I called MGM booked my vacation before cancelling Monte Carlo and then reservationist even offered to, and did, transfer me to the Monte Carlo so I could cancel them.

Next time just make your new reservation and then call and cancel your old one. Sorry you missed out on a good promotion.

You did say that the MGM reservation was going to be less expensive than the one you'd made at MC, so when you look at it that way, if you were still going to be at NYNY, then you wouldn't have saved any money. Anything is better than nothing!

What policy? I also, had casino marketing reservation at MGM and Internet reservation at Monte Carlo at same time. I've never heard of such a policy.

Well, my first choice was NYNY, only maybe since I have stayed there and know the drill there, since I never stayed at MGM. I have had this situation twice including this time having to cancel an MGM property before I book another, because obviously you cannot be in two places at once, does make sense, but this is maddening. We went from saving nearly $200 on the room to saving $30. Woo hoo. My husband is linked to my account, and does not play near as much as I do, so he does not get these promotions and I think they would figure it out since we are at the same address anyway.

Do you really think a host would help with people like us who really do not catch the attention otherwise?

Suppose I could try the $20 trick... ha ha...to at least get an upgrade... ;-)

Sorry that happened to you! I had an offer booked for NYNY and decided to change to MGM Grand because it was a better deal but they wouldn't let me book at MGM Grand until I cancelled the NYNY reservation. The lady told me you couldn't have 2 offers booked for the same dates, at the same time for 2 different hotels. So I cancelled the NYNY room and got MGM Grand for 2 nights for free and $109 for Friday night which I thought was pretty good.

I would keep watching. Maybe you will get another deal that can save you money that Saturday night. Good luck!!!

I would try to push it up the food chain and ask for a manager.

So if you didn't tell them you had another property booked, how would they know you did?
