it depends what you consider free? Yes they bring you drinks that you dont pay directly for, but indirectly Ive had plenty of $100 beers.

My wife and I enjoy sitting at the bar and playing vp or blackjack on the machines while getting free drinks. We like the atmosphere better than sitting at the rows of machines. I have been told that most strip casinos don't allow this anymore. Anybody know if this is true. Any casinos that do allow?

They don't allow you and your wife to drink anymore? What kind of antics did you get up to? :)

Seriously, many VP bars have always had some kind of "bet max" policy, which they enforce to varying degrees. The only place I've heard of that doesn't comp drinks at a VP bar is at Wynn, where I heard they require a $100 buy-in on the machine to get a comped drink. But I only "heard" that, didn't experience it myself.

My fav spot is VP at the bar (of course, not best odds...)

Had no problems getting free drinks anywhere on the strip in August (not that I was EVERYWHERE)

In fact, DH walked up to bar & ordered 2 beers; $10. Cripes, we could have both put $5 in the VP machines and gotten some play for the same drinks!

The cheapest "free" drinks are probably in the live Keno areas where for every 4 $1 one spot tickets you'll average $3 back and it takes long enough for four games to get a drink delivered. So that and $1 tip means the free drink only costs $2. Less if you "shadow play" every other game. Tip better initially and get more frequent service.

jrhurt, I think you might be referring to people that sit at the vp machines and play little to none. DH and I were staying at Harrahs this past October, and they will ask someone to move so that a person can play on the machine. As an example, many times when a sporting event is on TV, such as football, many people will sit at the bar taking up space. When people that want to sit and play, the bartendars will now ask they to play or get up. They have sinage on the machines now stating it is for players only. I have also seen where a person has been denied free drinks if not betting max credits. On the other hand, if DH and I have been playing and one of us stops, they will still give us both free drinks. (at Harrahs)

You don't need to play like a speed demon to get a free drink, just make sure you are playing.

Good Luck!

While I'm being entertained by the slot sucking my wallet dry, I love ordering my free favorite Long Island Ice Tea's!
