PH, Rio or Palms....

Hey all-we are 2 couples in our late 20's planning an upcoming trip to LV...we are all new parents and are leaving the little ones for the first time. Need some hotel advice.

We are looking to visit the last week in March. We have been to Vegas MANY times, but we've always driven, so we could basically stay anywhere we wanted because we had a car to get around. This time around we don't want to be gone as long (cause of getting home to the kids) and so will be flying.

We have narrowed it down to the Rio, Palms or Planet Hollywood as those seem to be the best deals for us right now. Here's what we want: nice rooms and a nice pool. Those are out main priorities as we are just looking for some nice relaxation and down time. We are totally up for walking/public transport to restaurants and such so having them in the hotel is not really that important, although PH is appealing to us because it is right in the center strip. Anyone know anything about their pool?

Also, are ALL the rooms at the PH and Rio renovated? From some photos I've seen on this site it looks like maybe some are still older. We definately want newer rooms.

And one last thing....is it warm in March? It seems we've visited every time of year except then and we wanted to make sure it will be warm enough that pools are open and what not. Given, we are coming from Montana, so anything over 75 is probably going to feel quite nice.

Thanks!!!

Both my parents are from Big Sky Country.

The Ipanema Tower at Rio was renovated 1 year ago but the Masquerade tower at the Rio has not been reovated yet.

The Fantasy Tower at Palms is only about 3 years old so the rooms should still be nice. The Palms tower at the Palms is 8 years old and the rooms are getting a bit dated. Palms Place which is an all-suite tower at the Palms is brand new.

PH does have renovated and non-renovated rooms. You should be able to tell by the online pics which are new and which aren't. PH has 3-4 different room types and I do not know the names of them.

Palms and Rio are going to have the best pools. PH pool is not very big and is a bit on the plain side.

Have a good trip.

www.venere.com had Palms Place for $89/per night(on weeknights) a couple of weeks ago. On weeknights(Sun. thru Thur.) Palms Place usually goes for $159/per night so it might be worth looking into.

Forget about the pool in March. Best bet for a renovated room is Rio's Ipanema Tower.

Ive been to Vegas in April and thought it was to cold to swim before! The PH pool is nothing to brag about at all. Although, I do really enjoy the hotel!Based on pool alone I would narrow my choices down to the other two properties.

PH's pool isn't great. If you have seen "Mindfreak", there was a segment or two filmed out there for reference. They have a great mix of restaurants and the WHOLE place is recently renovated. I haven't stayed at Palms but I didn't get a great vibe from the place when I visited.

I have stayed at Rio a few times and I think its a great place. The pool area is nice and they have a nice mix of restaurants. The rooms in the Ipenema Tower are renovated but they have been done gradually over a few years. So for me, I think it would be Rio, then PH, then Palms.

I'm from Montana too. If I didn't have a car I'd want to be on the strip so my vote is for PH. Everytime we've been there and haven't been on the strip we've regretted it.

At the end of March the weather should be about 70 to 72 degrees. I went to Las Vegas on April 6 2008 and the weather was 75 degrees and sunny.

The weather in Montana will probably be in the low 50's at the end of March so 70 degrees in Vegas will should be wonderful and great weather for some time at the pool.

The end of March is Spring break time and in Vegas during spring break alot of people use the pools.

It is tough...

I'd forget the Rio...older crowd.

It's a toss..

PH is one cool casino w/ cool renoated rooms & great strip location. Boring pool.

Palms nightclubs are hot, and pool is far superior...but you will find the crowd at the casino old during the day.

Weather is a toss up. Last January one day was gorgeous to lay by pool, too chilly next day. We were married first weekend in April 15 yrs. ago and drats it was too cool to lay by pool...then a couple years ago it was 90s in late March!

SO...the weather would seem to be your defining factor, which, of course, you can't control.

Flamingo pool is open to public after 1 or 2 daily, and is a terrific pool (even has a topless area).

You could stay at PH for hip vibe & great location, and hop over to Flamingo if weather is agreeable for pool.

If you can forget about the pool stay in a renovated room at PH, I love their buffet for brunch and I also like Lentore the bakery next door at paris.
