kids in vegas

I know this is crazy- but due to such great travel deals we are bringing the kids 9 and 12 to vegas for spring break. We have an off strip hotel (Cancun resort) booked, but the deals at Mandalay Bay and New York New York are tempting- would staying on strip be to much of and eye full for 2 boys?

I don't think there are porn slappers down there if that is your concern. There will be drinkers, gamblers, people without the best interest of your kids doing whatever they like.

Mandalay has a great pool though.

Plenty of pictures of bare butts and other things all around Vegas (one of the reasons I like it). I am sure any resort will be filled with drunk people, smokers, gamblers and other adult type things. My girlfriend saw a woman flash her boobs on the strip last year (I hope to see that this year). I view Vegas as one big bar where I can swear, drink and not be concerned with being family friendly, and I think a lot of other people feel the same way. My thought is that if your kids cannot handle that, might be best to leave them at home.

Of the two, I would suggest Mandalay for young kids. They have the acquarium there and a great pool area. They may get an eyeful at the pool, but probably no more so than your local pool.

Mandalay is the southernmost hotel, so you wouldn't be on the strip unless you wanted to go there. If you do, it shouldn't be bad for them, if you aim to go to the kid friendly spots (tiger cubs at Mirage, conservatory at Bellagio, arcade area at NYNY. Take them to Mac King show at Harrahs, you all will enjoy it!

Check the sticky at the top of the forum for a list (although not exactly up to date or correct for some items) and decide if this is what you want to do for your vacation.

Also, although the weather will probably be warm enough for the pool, there are no guarantees in April. I have seen it very chilly at the beginning of April.

A friend of mine recently went to Vegas & really enjoyed the Children's Museum. Their site says they are geared to children of all ages, so your boys may enjoy it (although a lot of Children's museums tend to be geared more for 10 & under). Here is the website so you can determine for yourself: http://www.ldcm.org/

I would also think the boys would enjoy the NYNY because of the arcade & the roller coaster. But if the pool is better for kids at Mandalay Bay, that may be a better option to stay & just take a visit to NYNY. If they are adventure seekers, they'll probably enjoy the rides at the Stratosphere as well.

Thanks for those who replied- even the nasty ones (I was sure to get a few). Just like many places-Vegas changes from year to year and I was only looking for a little direction for this year - not last.
