Will You Skip Renting a Car if Prices Don't Drop?

We're going end of April and always rent a compact car. We might not rent if the prices don't drop -don't want to pay $250+ for six days. We enjoy the convenience of having a vehicle but that's just ridiculous!

Hi

We have the same problem, we will be renting for a total of 3 weeks, (not just in Vegas) and the prices have gone up 25%+ since last year, making it pricey.

I will either skip the rental or just rent for a day or two to venture off the beaten path. I'm also planning to learn the CAT bus schedule.

Anyone know if Priceline, Hotwire, etc., have decent deals as in $20 a day or less?

Renting for three weeks??? That's going to cost a million dollars. Ha Ha ... I exagerate but sheesh!

I'm trying to price up a trip in June for 7-10 days. last time we went with airline network for hire car (now netflights) that is coming out alot more than last year ~ Is it still best to book it from the Uk even tho the prices are high? who have you found to be the cheapest?

Hi

Yes, netflight's can't be beat at the moment. They have now introduced Thrifty, never used them before but are 20% cheaper than Alamo, last year we had Hertz. I keep leaving booking it because they take the full amount at the time, so I will hold off for a bit longer. I need 8 days in Atlanta and the rest in NV/CA, I think a total of 20 days, with one overlapping when we fly into Vegas. I think it's around £400 in total for a intermediate. In the past we have rented premium or luxury, but not this time!

We have already reserved for Mar 16-20 for $135 taxes and fees included. That is almost double what we paid for the same number days 14 months ago. I keep checking daily for a deal, but am glad I locked in when I did. Same car, same time would now cost me $312

we booked with Alamo back in Jan. for our mid-April trip via AARP and got a week for about $150. Have checked back and seen it skyrocket. Just checked back again today (within 60 days of pickup) and it has dropped back into the $170s. I will keep checking back as last time I got a rental with National for negative fees. Research seemed to indicate it was their way of handling a class action lawsuit. Never know what kind of luck you can get in Vegas!!

Dollar is showing $116.90 for a compact car for pickup on 4/19 and drop off on 4/26. It's a "city special" that shows up after you pick LAS as the pickup location. With fees that's about $160 for a week.

Whether I rent a car or not isn't based on rates. I know that financially it usually pays to do this, but frequently I still don't rent.

It really depends on what we intend to do that trip. If we are basically going to spend our time mostly on the strip, with maybe one evening downtown, we will just take cabs. Even though it costs more. To me it just isn't worth the hassle. And I NEVER drink and drive---and that includes the free weak drinks in the casinos.

However if we have plans off-strip or will be doing a lot of running around we will get a car. For us this means about 1 out of ever 4 trips. It has to do with convienence not money.
