Monte Carlo 3 Nights Free vs. MGM $49/Night

I will be staying 3 nights in Vegas in mid-April, Friday - Sunday (checking out Monday). I am arriving late Friday and have a free night at Excalibur, then will be staying Sat & Sun at MGM for $49/night (including 2 free drinks at West Wing bar and $10 FreePlay). I just got an e-mail offer for 3 free nights at Monte Carlo. I will be at a show Friday night and will probably only be sleeping at Excalibur from 3am or so until checkout, then will move over to MGM - probably won't even unpack my suitcase. I know the MGM is a better hotel, but I thought I'd throw this out to the forum.

Another option is Mandalay Bay - I could stay the free night at Excalibur, then move to MB for $99 Sat and $69 Sun, with $25 FreePlay. So do I go for the free hotel, or pay a little bit to stay somewhere nicer? Is Monte Carlo really as bad as some are saying?

I'd go with Monte Carlo. I dont think it is that bad, and better location in my opinion than MGM.

There's nothing wrong with Monte Carlo - I would happily stay there for free. Only you can decide whether MGM or MB have advantages for you that would make it worth paying to stay there. I cannot advise you not having any idea about who you are or what you like to do in Vegas.

I have the 3 night free, $100 room credit at MC and considered staying there. But thr air fare for my weekend shot up like crazy, so probably skipping it.

It's a nice enough smaller hotel, and I would have no problems staying there. Good food options, too.

I disagree with better location, only because the monorail starts at the MGM to get you north strip. But if you don't use the monorail, it's good.

Comped vs $150...your call.

I think my problem is that over the years I've gradually moved up from low end to high end. In order, I've stayed at IP, IP, Flamingo, Mandalay Bay, Ballys, Mandalay Bay, The Hotel, Encore (just this past January). This is a solo trip, hooking up with friends at the Viva Las Vegas fest, so I'm trying to do this on pretty cheaply, but still, don't really want to stay in a dive. I won't be spending much time in the room, but looking at photos of the Monte Carlo here there is one showing a squashed bedbug in the sheets, and others showing wear and tear on the rooms. I'll probably end up switching to Monte Carlo, it's just hard to get excited about staying there, but again, I won't be at the hotel much anyway...

If you're trying to do it cheaply, free is free!!

As much as I like the MGM, I'd go with Monte Carlo. I don't think anyone would consider it a "dive."

How many times do we have to explain that even the most ritzy hotels can have bedbugs? They've had them at the Wynn and the Four Seasons, yet no one ever hesitates to stay at those establishments.

If you go looking for a hotel in Vegas that is gauranteed to be bedbug free you will be looking for a long time.

personally, i'd take the monte carlo. it's a good hotel and you can't beat free, IMO.

i stayed there a couple years ago and we didn't have any problems. we liked that it was quick and easy to get from the rooms to the strip, and loved the filet mignon eggs benny at the cafe for breakfast. also found the drink service to be very good and had decent luck on the slots there. no complaints from us.

I agree with Low and Stratton......I would not hesitate staying at the Monte Carlo (have stayed there once before and I liked the calmness of the casino and I also enjoy the casual food places to eat)....My husband received the same 3 nights at the Monte Carlo for April and we have it booked there for now. We have friends coming with us in April and received a 79/night at the Venetian and have that booked also (if our friends were not coming with us we would stay at Monte Carlo for sure)....my husband will stay for free over paying anytime (if it is clean and decent)....I will pay a little more to stay in a nicer place ;)

My husband and I like staying at the higher-end casinos also...but free at the Monte Carlo would be hard to pass up for us!

Just my opinion:) Lea
