Got a Special offer on the Wynn

Got a "Special Offer" from my travel agent on the Wynn and Encore of 4 nights for the price of 3.

£499 each including flights from Glasgow. Is this a really good deal and is the Wynn/Encore central to Vegas.

We have been advised by friends who have beeen to Vegas regularly that we should stay somewhere central even if it is off strip so that we are conveniently placed for night time fun,ie bars you can walk to or get hotel shuttle.

Opinions greatly received.

Cheers,

Gordy

First of all, the hotels don't run shuttles to take the guests places, not even to/from the airport.

Secondly, have you tried pricing the trip yourself by booking air and hotel seperately and on your own rather than using a travel agent? I'd do that before making the decision on whether to go the travel agent route to ensure you are getting the best possible price.

Go to websites like www.smartervegas.com, they post up promotional codes for the Vegas hotels that anyone can use, there are some very good prices right now to be had. Also check travelzoo.com, it has all sorts of specials for attractions, shows etc. Check the Wynn and Encore website to see if they are offering any specials.

Lastly, don't worry about the location, you'll be fine at either hotel, they are together and are the nicest Vegas has to offer in hotels.

"somewhere central even if it is off strip"

Something of a contradiction of terms there!

Wynn/Encore isn't what a lot of people would class as perfectly "central" but its location is just fine and really isn't an issue. UK posters will hopefully be able to tell you if that package is a good deal but it's not easy to say unless you tell us when this trip is planned for. Over the summer you can get midweek rooms at Wynn for $119 per night or less so you'd need to calculate how much it would cost you for flights then add that to it in order to make a comparison.

Cheers Gabby,

Will try your sugestions.

Friends who we spoke to have been going to Vegas for past 6 years an they said their hotel was running shuttle to/from strip.

Looked on the Wynnsite and if prices are approx £135 per night then deal looks quite good when you throw in airfare.

Only thing that bugs me with UK travel agents is that when you enquire about trips to the States they always quote you per person for hotel stays yet hotels in the States generally quote per room.

Am I being cynical in thinking that they are getting a little extra for themselves.

Cheers,

Gordy.

Gordy, where did these friends of yours stay in Vegas that a shuttle took them from the hotel to places they wanted to go? I've been to Vegas close to 75 times over the years, none do that that I know of other than some off strip hotels so they must not have stayed on the strip is all I can think of.

Do check that www.smartervegas.com site I posted for room rates to see if there is a less expensive option for the hotel room and then price plane tickets, let us know what you come up with.

Much obliged Blagger.

I think when they mentioned "central even if off strip" they meant not to stay at either end of the strip as it is a lot lot longer than us who have only seen it on tv think.

We are planning on being there in sept this year.

Originally had planned on going to LA first and driving to Vegas but are now thinking about doing it in reverse to finish with a couple of days unwinding at Santa Monica.

Don't know about the Wynn or Encore but I've stayed at the Hardrock several times and they have ALWAYS offered a free shuttle to the strip. Will be staying at the Rio next week and they too offer a complimentary shuttle to the strip.

Off strip properties often offer shuttle service to/from the strip since most people want to be on the strip.

Gordy, if this is your first time to Vegas, do stay on the strip so you can get a feel of what it is truly like in Vegas.

To piggyback on gabbys comments. It is true that off strip properties usually offer shuttles to the strip and to other properties owned by the same casino sponsoring the shuttle so that you will visit and play at their casinos. If you want to walk from their casino up or down the strip. It's a great way to save money on cab fare.

There is a list of shuttles offered by casinos at www.lasvegasadvisor.com under the transportation tab.

You will note that almost none of the casinos run a shuttle from the airport except for a couple that are WAY off strip.

There are airport shuttles for which you pay a fee that run to the strip and downtown. They stop often on your way and tend to be frustrating to may people.

On the strip people can use other paid bus or monorail transportation or use taxi cab service if the feet are weary...and they do get weary.

So sorry that I didn't make clear that the airport shuttles are ONLY to get you to and from your hotel. They offer no other strip transportation.

Stay at Wynn/Encore if it fits into your budget, you will not be disappointed. It is one of the highest rated resorts on the strip and I highly recommend either place. They are linked via a large, long hallway with shops. It's right across the street from the largest indoor mall on the strip (not an outlet mall). It's close to Venetian/Treasure Island/Mirage. Check out the maps of the strip to get an idea. There are plenty of dining options in and around the Wynn/Encore.

Even if you stayed at Bellagio, which alot of people consider to be the prime location, you are still going to do alot of walking seeing everything, there isn't really anyway 'round that. I guess you could just drive up and down the strip and say you saw all the hotels!

Like Blagger said, you have to price out the hotel and airfare yourself to see what kind of deal you are getting. The price the hotel will give you is per room not per person.

As far as getting around, taxi's are the best way if you don't have a car. Even then, it is sometimes a pain to drive yourself, so go with a taxi if you are too tired to walk back to your hotel.

Wear comfortable shoes, I can't stress that point enough!
