19 Casinos - $95 - The Challenge

My 28th Birthday a few weeks ago yielded a unique and interesting proposition from my wife, as a present.

A selfmade card showing one of our recent Vegas pictures contained the offer.

#1: Take the money and run

#2: Turn it into more.

(I was made to take option 2!)

There was a list of 19 strip casinos with a corresponding $5 bill. The challenge is to play the $5 in each casino preferably on a slot machine and play it until $5 is finished, but not playing the winnings unless I want to. The choice of machine and amount played per spin etc is up to me but once that money is gone, it's gone.

A couple of reasonable wins will hopefully ensure I am still in the same position I started and I can throw my money away on the various Vegas 'tat' I love to buy each visit!

My question to you all is for suggestions for which slot to play. I love Goldfish and will play this a few times but I'd love your thoughts.

Have you had some low roller luck anywhere or found a really unique or new machine while in Vegas recently for me to try. Assume I am playing all the big hotels with few smaller ones like Casino Royale etc.

I plan on keeping a record of my success/failure to post when I get back with pics if I remember to take them

I go on Wednesday so get your suggestions in early.

Thanks in advance

If you are doing #2 why slots? Horrible house edge. If the goal is to make money slots is the worst way to go about it.

Join www.lasvegasadvisor.com, use the matchplays and non-negotiable chips, a much better chance of making money. $37 membership will pay for itself. You could limit yourself to strip, near strip (such as ELiis Island, Palms) and downtown if you do not have a vehicle. If you have a vehicle the off strip matchplays are excellent - $25, free Ace, etc.

Slots at 19 strip casinos sounds boring (to me) and does not have great odds-it's your time and money, if this works for you go for it. There is no "which slot to play" they are random - pick one you like and hope for the best. People have done similar tasks such as you describe - some win, some lose, as expected. Hopefully you'll be a winner.

waste of time

Take the $95 dollars and make one bet, odd or even, black or red on roulette or one hand of BJ.

Unlike Bridge, Diceman, and Mr. Ducky...I am a lowly slot player :(

It would be difficult to only play $5 in a machine but if given the challenge, I would choose a dollar machine if I was TRYING to win some money.

If I played it in a penny machine, I would hit max bet even if I could do it one or two times since I've seen people hit a jackpot on the first spin by playing max bet on more than one occasion.

Let us know what happens since that is one heck of a challenge for trying to win money.

I think the first two commenters are missing the point: they're doing this to HAVE FUN!

I think it's a great idea to get around, see the hotels and casinos, and have a little fun along the way. I like the way your wife thinks. Hopefully you'll get some good action at some of your stops to make it all the more worthwhile!

adlufc, just have some fun.

I'd pony up to the bar, put in the cash into a video poker machine, get a beer and play for a few. If nothing else, you'll enjoy a few beers, and chat with the bar staff.

Just a Note: Many of the bar VP's have some of the worst odds, and for "Comped Drinks" a minimum of a ten is needed. That said, insert a twenty and play down to your five, cash out and move on ;)

Yes fun it is for your birthday after all and hey its about 50 quid so you lose you lose big deal, you will have a laugh doing it and not a bad idea, might try this for my wife's 30th and we are out there.

Same as you both of us love Goldfish, we also love the big Monolopy slots, but I am a Monopoly freak at the best of times.

Have a great birthday.

Adlufc didn't mention having fun as the purpose of this challenge - #2 is the goal - to make money.

The 2 are not mutually exclusive of course. To answer the orinignal question fun is not a requirement.

I would say to pony up the extra five bucks and make it $100 in 20 casinos. It just sounds a bit neater.

But, I agree with Ducky. I would play one dollar slots and I like the triple diamonds. We decided to do something like that last trip except it was $100 in a $5 machine. We pulled 20 times and didn't even get a cherry. We move to another bank of machines and I told the wife, "Let's do it again". At first she balked, but then we agreed she would $50 on the machine of her choice and I'd do the same. On my first pull, I hit a double bar, double bar, triple. Cashed out $400 a few pulls later later. My wife didn't hit anything.

There are hundreds of thousands of topics - If you aren't willing to offer anything constructive to the conversation, move on for a change!

I've heard of people doing this before. They call it slot golf and it's usually two or more people that bet a set amount of money in one slot in a number of casinos and see who comes out ahead. I think you will have a good time doing it.

Some of the slots that I have had good luck on with a minimum investment include Papua Nui Riches and American Original. Not every casino carries Konami and Bally games so you won't find them everywhere. I would avoid the really hot games like WOZ and progressives. You usually have to be willing to commit more than $5 to get any action on them.

Forgot to mention, for me it was fun, for my wife, not so much.
