You're in Vegas NOW??? Mailgirl's Labor Day TR

No projectile vomiting, no skydiving...just some reviews, photos and things I observed. I'll *try* to keep it on the short side.

Will post as replies:

Here's the link to the photos I uploaded. Probably missed a few I wanted to put and put some duplicates, but you'll get the idea.

dammit...typos ALREADY?

Okay. Left Rhode Island on Sunday September 6th. Flew Southwest (direct). I swear the more you take this flight, the less it seems like 5 1/2 hours. No crying babies, no annoying comedian flight attendents. Full plane, though. Had a nice couple in both seats next to me.

Got into McCarren 15 minutes early. Went to pick up baggage and look for Malvlover (Julie).

Finally caught up with Julie and went to pick up rental. Decided to head to Palazzo first and check her in before I check in Downtown at the Four Queens.

Drove up the Strip to Tropicana - hey I'm not driving, I can take pictures!

So, at the Palazzo, they told Julie that her room wasn't ready, so we went and gambled a bit and then ate at the Grand Lux Cafe. I had the Asian Nachos (wasabi and chicken on fried wontons). Pretty spicy, but good. Julie had the Lunch Oven Baked Rustic Pizza & Salad. Oh, and I ordered the Chocolate Espresso Martini that they USED to have on the menu. The waitress said they still make it. It was not as good as I remembered. At $14, I wish it had been.

We played in the casino some more and went to see if the room was ready. Of course they gave her the key as if it had been ready for an hour - even though they hadn't called her.

So after taking photos of the room and dumping her bags, it was time to head Downtown to meet up with Shrek & Fiona @ the El Cortez (oh, and check me in)

I kinda like the chandelier and carpet pics. I'd give the edge to the DT places for having the more unique fixtures.

Carry on. :)

So we leave the Palazzo garage and hop right on I-15. This takes us right Downtown. We self-park at the Four Queens, only to find out - after we've parked on the 4th level, that the elevator is out. So I carry my suitcase down the flights of stairs and into the lobby. (um, the next day we find the "other" elevator on the other side of the garage - oops!)

So check-in is quick and I get a room that's on the 18th floor of the South tower and right off the elevator. I drop my stuff and...take pictures:

Now we head over to the El Cortez. I like that place, so I was like a little kid bouncing around on the way over there and out from under the (safe) canopy. ;)

So we get in and Shrek finds us near the Piano Bar. I really wanted to do the 2-4-1 Martini Madness - but I will say that Shrek bought me my 2 Cosmos. Thanks, Shrek. So we all had the chance to hang out that we didn't in December because Shrek & Fiona had to head back to AZ too soon.

Here's a photo of Shrek & Fiona:

So we head out of the El Co and back towards the Canopy. We take a peek in the Griffin on the way, it was empty. (which is the way I like it, but we were there to see Three Dog Night, after all)

One look back at the El Co:

So we get over to where the stage is set up between the Fitz and Four Queens. We find a spot along the railing (security set up railings so the crowd couldn't go directly into the casinos...no, it doesn't make any sense to me either. Didn't make any more sense after 100 drunks tried to use me as a door to get into the Fremont, either!)...so we find our spot and stake our claim on a small piece of Fremont. And after three songs and about 200 people brushing up against me, it was enough. Time to move on. How many drunks can grab your b**b before you get to kill them? I wasn't going to wait to find out. It wasn't even on purpose, people were packed in like sardines. See exibit A:

As we moved away from the stage area a little, we ran into VegasVarment, who was heading in:

Here's a look at the people and sound from a safer distance. Nothing special, but typical Fremont and good for a chuckle:

Alright, so much for short...

We head towards Firefly*, which I haved decided I MUST go to. On the way, I run up to my room @ 4 Queens. I take this photo of the concert crowd:

flickr.com/photos/…

and when I get back downstairs, we've run into Ironicisme! : flickr.com/photos/…

Now, Firefly* - all I can say is I really liked it. I liked the food, the Tapas "thing" in general and my drink (Blood Orange Mojito).

After Firefly*, we go downstairs and meet up with TexasTJ and Mr. TexasTJ. We head back down Fremont...I'm going to hang out a bit and gamble at Binion's with the Shreks and Julie & the TTJ's are going to head back to the Strip.

We check out the hippie van/ rock band/ aerial show that I missed in June even though I was staying at the Golden Gate.

So me and my bloodshot eyes and dead-tired self loses some money at Binion's, says goodnight and good-bye to Mr & Mrs. Shrek and goes up to bed.

Okay, so you know how sometimes you go to bed in a strange place and when you wake up, before your eyes are even open, you are lying there thinking you're at home?

I did that. Then someone coughed in the room next to me. And I jumped out of my skin! I thought it was someone in MY HOUSE!

Ok, so yeah, I'm in Vegas! The trip just didn't seem real. Even when I got on the plane the day before. Now I was actually in Vegas! Yay!

Except that guy that coughed was now puking. AND I could hear him. Eww! Payback for me in the GN in April puking all night and keeping my best friend awake, I guess.

I got up, took some photos out the window, was shocked that it was already 80 degrees at 6:26 am, and got ready to head out for breakfast. (thanks time and temp on top of Binions)

flickr.com/photos/…

So I walked over to the El Cortez to have breakfast at the Cafe Cortez. OH, and I won my breakfast money from my favorite machine there, Mr. Cashman, Jewel of the Enchantress. No big win, put in $20, took out $35. Breakfast money.

Headed back to the canopy area and took photos all over. Visited the GN and GG. Bought a birthday present for my best friend at the GN gift shop. NO, it wasn't a toothbrush, tyvm!

I put my camera away and gambled a little at Four Queens. They were the ones that gave me the free room, so it was time to pay for it. I won a little, lost a little. Wasn't feeling too lucky.

There was this weird new machine - some kind of psychic slot machine with a guy's name that I can't remember. It was fun, but before I figured it out, the bonus doesn't pay if you forget to push the "spin" button. You just lose your bonus spin. Whoops!

So Julie came to pick me up, I checked out and put my luggage in her car. Used the good elevator this time! Then we went up to Magnolias to have lunch and use the BOGO lunch entree coupon that I had. I had the muffaletta (sp?) and she had an omelet. Good deal with the coupon, of course.

Time to head back to the Strip.

Oh, first, Shrek mentioned that he saw a Goth chick walking another Goth chick around on a leash. There must've been something going on because I was in the elevator with a huge Goth guy with a Raggedy Ann looking doll and another guy with a dog collar. It was kind of funny - but maybe you had to be there.

And as far as the Four Queens goes, it wasn't a bad room. The towels were nice and fluffy, but the sheets really need to be replaced. I mean, they were "clean" but looked like something out of a CSI crime scene. I would stay at the El Co again before the Four Queens.

On to the Strip....
