Finally planned our trip!!

We're going to be in Vegas from December 7 - 13, and this is our first time. I'm so excited!

I remember coming across a great website called Las Vegas for Newbies or some such thing, with lots of great advice, but I can't find it now. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Care to share a link?

Also, since this is our first trip there, what are the "must-do" things?

Thanks!!

I'm planning first trip too...... ooked up newbies... etc and was not impressed at all, he has a listing of subjects and no way to get to them. Not worth your time. Disappointing.

Fred has moved his information from a blog to a real website. It's located here: http://www.lasvegas4newbies.com/home.html

It's much easier to navigate now. Keep in mind that it represents the hard work and opinions of one man.

Try www.lasvegas4newbies.com instead.

Also, get your hands on Frommer's Travel Guide for Las Vegas. That was very helpful to us on our first trip. One thing to keep in mind about that book, however, is that things change so rapidly in Vegas that between the time the book goes to print and you get it in your hands, it's somewhat outdated. It's an easy read and very complete.

We've also found the Web site www.lasvegas.com very helpful. You can get more up-to-date info there. But of course it involves all the clicking and printing of a Web site. Double check details of what you find in Frommer's on line and make notes of changes in your book.

Things to see? Oh boy . . . have you got a month? But be sure to see

Bellagio - water show at night.

Paris - Eiffel Tower (admission charged) also at night. You'll get a great view of the strip. Stay up there long enough to see the Bellagio water show from above.

Paris - Out front (during the day) you'll find living statues. Watch for a while, take photos. Great fun!

Mirage - Actually THIS is where the white tigers and volcano are (volcano erupts after dark). There is one tiger in a display area at the front entrance. At the back of the property is The Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat (admission charged and open only during the day). These are nice diversions from the hectic pace and noise of LV.

MGM Grand - If you like big cats, the MGM has lazy lions in a display area in the casino.

Tropicana - Overhead in the casino is an entertaining AirPlay show (I think just during the day).

Venetian - If you're traveling with a significant other, take a gondola ride for a bit of cheesy (but really fun) romance.

Caesars - Stroll through the Forum Shops and take time to watch at least part of the animatronic statue shows there (2).

Fremont Street - Take a cab downtown to see old Las Vegas at night. Enjoy the musicians in the four block area under the canopy (Carl Farris' Safe Sax is a favorite) and watch the artists there. The overhead light show is a Vegas experience--just OK as far as I'm concerned.

Hoover Dam - Bus tours abound (admission of course). Take one instead of renting a car--traffic in LV is . . . oh boy!

Most of all . . . have fun! (It's hard not to ;)

We absolutely love VEGAS. Nobody has mentioned the VooDoo Lounge at the Rio - it's a must. Fantastic views of the Strip and really good atmosphere...nice to sit and have a drink! There's a free bus from Harrah's.
