I was just about to most the same message! Looking forward to responses. I too have many to Vegas several times but never on New Years Eve. I was there in March for a "girls 40th birthday trip". We stayed at the Bellagio then but the package deals too expensive this time of year. This time I am going with my boyfriend. We are staying at TI. His 40th birthday is on New Years Day! We just booked last night.....can't wait!

The Strip is closed down to traffic and it becomes one huge party in the Street. Wall to wall people, lots of fights, puking, beer sprayed, bottles thrown etc. If this is not your scene its best to avoid the Strip on NYE.

I really enjoyed downtown for NYE. You buy a wristband, and that allows you to go in an out all of the casinos. There are several bands that play, and ther are bars set up outside all of the casinos. There was a lot of people, but it was not shoulder to shoulder. The crowds were mostly around the bands.

The strip does close down to traffic late afternoon/early evening. It then starts to fill up with people until is looks like a mini- Times Square on NYE-wall to wall people. At some points it is difficult to move independently- you go where the mob pushes you. Many people are feeling no pain. Liquor must be sold in plastic containers for safety reasons. There is a fireworks display at midnight. If you stray to far from your hotel, it make take a while to get back to it. I was on the strip one year because I wanted to see what it was like. I don't regret going, but I wouldn't do it again.

This will give you an idea of what was available last year (look under entertainment). Eventually the site will list what is available this year.

Yeah, I'm with vp03, I don't regret going but I wouldn't do it again. Too many people crammed into the same space.

My advice? Make specific plans - have a ticket to something. Hopefully you'll have a good experience!

There are parties at the various clubs. The casino/resorts all have fancy dinner parties -- both private "invited guest" parties and public buy your ticket parties. There is the HUGE street party on the Strip. And there is the Fremont Street party.

I have been to the Strip many times for NYE. I have not seen any fights at the Street Party -- it is too crowded for fighting!! No room for the antagonists to back up and swing at each other!! I really enjoy the scene, but I also used to go to Times Square in NYC every NYE, in the 70s. So calling it a mini-Times Square makes it perfect to me.

Make your plans ASAP. Hotel rates go up, restaurants get fully booked, clubs get fully booked despite sky-high prices. Although in this economy, maybe things will be different this New Year.

We are staying at the Mirage - got a good deal at www.cityandshow.com - haven't seen very many events advertised yet! We would like to go somewhere for a meal that maybe has a bar and a dancefloor... still looking!

We are staying at NYNY, same as what we did last year. Our learnings from last year...make reservations, have specific plans, expect the crowds on the strip, and just have lots of fun whatever you are doing!
