Luxor stay this weekend

I'm staying at the Luxor on a Soutwest Vacation package deal this weekend and have never stayed there before. Is there a specific room type/location to ask for when we arrive? Is there a way to get upgraded rooms to something I'd love?

Also, i've read really bad things about the Luxor on tripadvisor - is it really *that* bad?

Luxor will be fine. Nothing fancy though, comparable to Holiday Inn. Tower rooms are supposed to be better than pyramid rooms, but I usually stay in the pyramid. The easiest way to be upgraded is to pay for it.

I stayed at the Luxor in September in a regular pyramid room and really enjoyed it. I've heard the tower rooms are updated and nicer though. The pyramid room was a little dated and rough around the edges but still clean and for the time you spend in the room did the job. They offered to upgrade me to a tower room for $20/night but given that I was just there to play poker and not spend anytime in the room I didn't even bother.

I am also staying at the luxor this weekend. There is nothing wrong with the luxor. They have updated the casino and lounges/bars and have some pretty good eating options. They also have indoor walkways to MB and Excal and also the tram if you want to use it.

If you are staying in the pyramid, ask for a room close to the inclinator. Only 1 bank of inclinators go to a specific group of floors, so if your room if completely on the other side of the pyramid, you are gonna do a lot of walking. It seems that when I book a standard room thru a 3rd party I get a room as far as possible from the inclinators.

Dixie, Luxor is a reasonably priced hotel...I've stayed in the pyramid room and it was clean and good. Solid 3.5 star property, IMO. Have fun, and enjoy the trip. And yes, tower rooms are newer

Thanks everyone.

I have to say this weekend's trip was great. We had no issues with the Luxor, despite reading previous posts. It was a fine hotel, clean, quiet, comfortable bed. I wish it had the big comfy down comfortors and better pillows but there was really nothing bad about it. If anything, it was a litle rough around the edges but nothing to complain about. For that price, I will definitely stay there again.
