Got back late last night from our four night/five day trip to LV. THis was only my second trip (last time was in 2000). Had a great time and will not wait another nine years to go again. We stayed at the Mirage and enjoyed our stay. Had a deluxe room with a strip view, comfy beds and nice robes for lounging. Ate at BBKings and the Buffet for breakfast. Both were fine ... no complaints, but nothing extraordinary.
We saw two shows ... "O" and "Jersey Boys" and enjoyed both ... I especially enjoyed "Jersey Boys" but my daughter (30) reminded me that I fit comfortably into the "demographic" for that one.
Had some good dinners ... had reservations at Olives and loved it! Got to sit outside on the (yes it is heated) patio and watched the fountains. Didn't have to "grease any palms" to get seated outside ... was asked which we preferred when we checked in. Whoo-Hoo!
Enjoyed margarhitas and dinner at Tanqueria Canonita (Venetian). Food was good and would definitely go there again.
Lost money in just about every casino up and down the strip ... but managed to win enough (mostly at Bellagio) to come home at a "just about" break-even point.
Flew American Airlines for the first time in my life ( have been a frequent flyer with both United and Continental for years) and foir the first time in my life they lost my bag. They got it to us by the next day but was irked at the very cavalier and non-apologetic attitude of the agents in the baggage office. They reminded me that there was a lot of snow in Chicago when we left ... I reminded her that, despite the snow, they managed to get a planeload of passengers to Vegas and most of those passengers had their bags. Ah well ... next flight in two weeks will be on Continental.
Some observations on the trip ...
I guess it was the holidays but I was amazed at the number of children there ... and some really tiny babies, too! I remember how difficult it was to travel with the kids and wonder if grown ups can really enjoy themselves with the little ones.
I love the Venetian but could not stay there. What is with that smell? I generally am not bothered by "perfumy" odors but that one would get to me. Thank goodness it did not waft into Bouchon where we had two of the best breakfasts ever!
Vegas is indredibly expensive. We have done Disney dozens of times and have always said that the real "Disney Magic" was the fact that every time you open your wallet your money disappears. But this trip was by far the most $$$ per day we have spent anywhere! Now we did what we wanted and ate where and when we wanted but wow!
All in all had a great time and will go again.
