Southwest Vacations vs. Westjet Vacations vs. Others???

From Toronto Pearson Airport we usually fly westjet vacations cause they offer the cheapest hotel/DIRECT flight combo... but this year it seems they've removed alot of their Vegas hotels... and any other Canadian sites I look at are exxpennsiiivvvveee for a DIRECT flight and hotel combo... We're thinking of booking with southwestvacations.com and flying out of Buffalo...

Details: July 22-26th.

Hotels: PH, TI or Mirage probably since its a Bachelor Party.

Occupancy: 2 per room.

Flight: Direct only... (connecting flights are torture).

Example using TI:

Direct from Pearson, Expedia costs about $1,000 each.

Direct from Buffalo, Southwest costs about $600 each.

Anyone have any suggestions for sites to check out for flying direct from Pearson or direct from Buffalo???

Have you looked at booking separately? In many cases it is less expensive to book directly with the hotel and airlines.

WestJet Vacations is the way to, if you ask me.

Great prices, direct flights, great airline.

I'm going @ end of February w/ WestJet (not vacations, as our room @ TI is comped). I did check WestJet Vacations & they had plenty of different properties to choose from, including TI.

You may save a bit flying out of Buffalo, but you have a two hour drive there & back (at the end of your vacation you land then two hours+ in a car.... YUCK!) &, if going in the winter, you could hit bad weather, for which Buffalo is notorious.... Do you want to take that chance to save a few bucks????

But, that is just my opinion. Whatever way you go, please enjoy your trip!

BTW, in response to Damama, your are right much of the time, flight & hotel separate will be a better deal. Buty, for my travel dates this trip, Feb.25-28, the package deals WestJet Vacations offered would have been a MUCH better deal that the flight & separate hotel bookings, were it not for the fact my accomodation @ TI was comped. This is not always the case....I am assuming it is due to the time of year that determines which is better.

WestJet Vacations can have excellent priced Vacation Packages depending on the time of year you are going. I would try calling them directly on their toll-free line to enquire about special hotels. Pick a hotel based on the location you want to be in. Sometimes it is cheaper to book your flights seperate from your hotel. If you sign up for offers with hotels that interest you they will send you special room deals. I would choose WestJet over any other airline to fly to Vegas from Canada. Free baggage. Have to watch AirCanada as they often use U.S. carriers. Direct is the way to go, missed connections due to weather delays, equpment problems, can shorten a vacation and leave you stranded. Been there; done that; not fun. Pricing from Buffalo does look good; but you are going to add time to get there, through the border crossing, parking costs. Do you really want to drive back after a Bachelor Party?

Damama:

Flying from Toronto or Buffalo... it's almost never cheaper to book the flight and hotel separately.... if anything it would work out to the same cost...

Sensfan:

For a direct flight with PH:

Toronto: Westjetvacations: $1018.18

Buffalo: Southwestvacations:$647.00

For almost $400 I'd drive 1.5 hours to Buffalo in July.

If it were $50,$60,$75 I wouldn't bother....

XiLoveVegasX, the $1018, price from WestJet Vacations uses the late flights, meaning you lose more than half a day in Vegas. Choose that deal, then manipulate the flight for the 9AM flight (arrive in Vegas 10AM-ish) & the price climbs to about $1800 (don't quote these numbers, I did this but don't recall the exact prices, just close).

My direct flight with no hotel for my wife & I, return- morning flight in, afternoon flight out, comes to $1900, taxes/ fees included....

ok but if it is about the same cost, you are not locked in. With SWA, you can get a credit if the price drops and if the hotel rates drop you can change that too.

If the price is less for a combo, go for it but if it were me and the price was the same, I would always book separately.

Canuck Rick, "about $400" is a grosss generalization. Factors that affect this price- time of year, day of week, time of day, etc...

Besides, what does "around $400" pay for- return flighty or one-way, taxes/ fees in or separate...

Forget about vacation packages, West Jet will ALMOST ALWAYS have a better price than Air Canada for flight-only. Besides, once you fly WestJet you never want to step foot on that rotten Aircanada again- lousy service, high prices, on & on & on. West jet by contrast- friendly service, helpful service, on-time or early almost always, live TV in seatback (Air Canada has seat-back TV, but it's not live, just canned repeats).
