Had a great time on our “couples retreat” to Vegas over Valentines weekend!
My partner flew in to Vegas on the 10th for a conference. We found a pretty good deal on an economy car with Payless for $12.00/day. With the car companies keeping their fleets slimmer these days, the lower rates are harder to come by. For 5 days, the total with taxes was about $80.00.
I left on Friday the 12th after work. I was really lucky as my flight from Denver left on time! There were several flights delayed because the aircraft were coming in from cities down South that had been impacted by the bad weather. Two of the earlier flights that I almost booked actually left AFTER my flight at 7:45 p.m! I was surprised that there was only one bride-to-be on my flight carrying a gown – I thought I’d see more at the airport heading to Vegas for a Valentine’s Day wedding!
No issues getting to Vegas and my flight actually landed early. Since my trips to Las Vegas are usually only for 2 or 3 nights, I always pack a carryon and skip the baggage carousel wait. Made it to the passenger pick-up and we were off to Harrah’s! I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve been to Vegas in the past 40 years, but this was definitely my first stay at Harrah’s. Our 5 nights were comped through Total Rewards and we selected this property primarily because of the conference location.
Harrah’s is pretty nice and was a pleasant surprise – plus it’s in a great location. Our room was on the 29th floor with rear facing views of Imperial Palace, Bally’s, Planet Hollywood, etc. Not the best view, but still pretty awesome seeing the world from the 29th floor! Harrah’s isn’t like some of the other resorts on the strip where you have to walk for miles to get from your room to the sidewalk out front – it’s actually very convenient and accessible. We’ll probably stay there again.
It was a little after 9 p.m. by the time we got to the hotel and dropped off my stuff in the room, so we headed down to the casino and had drinks and played video poker at the Toby Keith bar up front. Great vibe there - enjoyed the loud music and the go-go dancers by the blackjack tables. After playing there for an hour or so, headed across the street to the Mirage. Wandered around and ended up playing penny Hot Shots and drinking more beer back by the entrance to Love. Fell in Love with a cocktail waitress there who was on the ball with our drink!
After a couple of hours, we were ready to eat! Left the Mirage around 1:00 a.m. bound for Imperial Palace to check out Hash House a Go Go – got this recommendation based on reviews in other TR’s. Now I’m adding this as a recommendation and strongly urge everyone to check it out - - the food is awesome and HUGE! Definitely needed a big breakfast to soak up the beer!
Didn’t play at Imperial Palace, but we did have fun watching the “DealerTainers” singing at the blackjack tables!
Slept in big time on Saturday morning! We were still full from our early, early morning breakfast that we didn’t venture out into the daylight until around noon. Bypassed the slots in Harrah’s since luck wasn’t on our side so far. We wandered down the strip and checked out Venetian and Palazzo – the main thing we wanted to see here was Lagasse Stadium. Emeril has an INCREDIBLE sports book at the Palazzo – you have to check this out if you haven’t already, very impressive! Not a big sports nut – but would love to watch a game here!
On to buffet brunch at the Wynn - very good! Usually we like to have the Bellagio buffet, but wanted to try something new this time. Not sure if it’s now favored over the Bellagio, but about the same level in my opinion! ATE WAY TOO MUCH and the walk from Wynn to Harrah’s seemed to be 10 miles longer on our way back! Back a Harrah’s we sat down at some penny spin poker and pretty much camped out here for four or five hours! We had the best luck here and an incredible cocktail waitress who never asked us if we wanted a drink … she just kept brining round after round after round – regardless if we were ready or not! We were pretty tispy by 7p.m. – and made a quick trip back to the room to cleanup for Saturday night in Vegas!
On Saturday night, we played more of the Spin penny poker and then also enjoyed the dueling pianos show at Harrah’s – something else I’d highly recommend! TONS of fun!
Made it back to the room by 3a.m. and got up at 7a.m. to get ready for our flight home. Love taking the strip back to the airport on Sunday morning – no cars on the road and get to oogle at everything and look like tourists! Returning the car was a breeze and so was security. Shocker – but again, most people leave Vegas after noon! Our flight was oversold and we were tempted to give up our seats for the travel voucher – but the only flight option was at 7pm! No way we were going to wait that long … but it was tempting to have an airline voucher to begin planning our next Vegas getaway!
We didn’t come back with wads of cash spilling out of our pockets, but did have an awesome, everything-in-excess, quick getaway!
