It is ON. I’ve been waiting anxiously for my Bachelor party to start and can barely control myself. It’s about mid day and I am putting the finishing touches on packing for my evening flight. I’m in the mood. So much so that I stop at the bank to get some cash and give the teller all the loose change I’ve had for months. She puts it in the machine and I’m envisioning a big jackpot win as I see the number of cash I have get bigger. $53.72. Nice. Know what I am putting on red when I get to the Mirage. Grab another thousand and out the door to the grocery store. Hoping to find a collapsible cooler to put in my carry on. Can’t find one so I find an employee and she starts to look. 5 mins later and they are all out. It’s fine. In the Vegas mood I slip her a $5. She gives me a curious look and says thanks…
Head downtown MPLS to meet the other 5 on my plane and we take the light rail to the airport. We’re early so we hit the bar. 3 Coronas later and we’re ready to board. Sun County 5pm flight. I have an aisle seat with my bud John to my left. To his left in the window is nice looking woman who is excited for her trip. About an hour and a half (half the flight) and we haven’t had an opportunity to buy a cocktail. Time to hit the stewardess button. Over she comes with fire in her eyes. I nervously ask when we’ll be able to buy some drinks and she replies, “When you’re sitting up there, pointing to business class.” HA, it gets worse but not enough to tell more about. The girl in our row wasn’t even going to drink until she had a run in with the stewardess too over her change for purchasing snacks. The three of us put down 3-4 drinks a piece when it’s getting close to landing time. The girl pulls out her camera and wants to take a pic with us. I look at John and he gives me a funny smirk…I got it. I tell the girl, “Why don’t I take a pick of you too? But…. Only if you are kissing.” She agrees and gives him a little peck. Oh NO, the pic came in fuzzy. .. we better do another one. 5 pics later we land and John has a big smile ready to take on the town.
I’ve been to Vegas 3 times before and always went on the cheap. This trip was very different.
Limo driver has sign with my name on it and we pile in. Quick stop at the liquor store and we’re off to the Mirage. My best man, and older brother was already there so no worries about check in. While walking to the elevators, I see the roulette table. This will determine my gambling luck for the trip. Alright, throw $50 down on red, BOOM...nope I lost. Oh well just a drop in the gambling budget bucket. Get up to the room and it is perfect…for us. Two king beds, two roll away beds, and two full size couches. Just enough for the few hours of sleep we’d have anyway.
Now our group is finally all together and we’re ready to hit the strip. All do a shot, pound a beer, and we’re off to hit the strip….Edited: 23 March 2010, 01:45
Day 1 cont.
We hit the strip and are not sure where to start. We all have a nice buzz at this point and think a stop at carnival court is in order. Pull up to the bar and order two Rum and Cokes, telling my buddy Brad, I got it. Throw out a $20 and bartender smile, “that’ll be $24.” That’s right, I forgot this is Vegas. My opinion is the prices are justified. They load these drinks with a lot of booze.
After a few drinks we head over to Bill’s. $1 margaritas and $2 Dos Equis. I drink a few of the margaritas and am now getting a little hazy. A buddy hands me a Dos Equis but I still have more margaritas in front of me. A middle aged man next to me is trying to get a beer, so I give him mine. Then I tell him I am the most interesting man in the world. He laughs so hard he almost spits up the beer. The group is getting anxious. We sat down to watch the band for a song or two and laugh at the drunks trying to dance and spilling drinks. Song ends, I yell “Free Bird” to the band, and we decided to head out of the casino. We get outside and notice three of the group is missing. Look at my phone, got the text, “Heading to Rick’s :)” It’s cool as I explained that the strip club wasn’t the first thing on my list of things to do. I grab three other guys and we head back to the Mirage. Wanted to class it up a little bit as the next stop is VooDoo lounge. Grab a few beers from the fridge and we’re on our way.
Get inside the club and realize that one of my big fears of this trip has come to light. Vegas during march madness is ALL DUDES. Oh, well. We grab some drinks and head to the outside patio. After an hour or two we are primed to hit the dance floor. It was hit and miss for a little while. We end up dancing with a fun group of woman for Canada that were all 40-50 years old. They found out it was my bachelor party proceeded to grind all over me and take picture after picture of kissing me on the cheeks. Ended up being a pretty fun PG rated evening.
Head back to the Mirage and we are a mess. Hoot and holler all the way to Carnegie deli for a late night snack. These sandwiches are ridiculous, and kind of overpriced, but did the trick. It’s about 3:30 and instead of hitting the tables we decided to crash. Gopher game is on at 9:00am Vegas time and we want to watch it.
I can totally feel the fun energy of your trip. Great trip report so far. Sounds like you guys had a wild time ... can't wait to hear more.
A bachelor party in Vegas - priceless!
>>Then I tell him I am the most interesting man in the world. He laughs so hard he almost spits up the beer.<<
That was also priceless!
Thanks for sharing this - I needed the laugh & waiting for the rest
Great read so far.
sounds like it was a blast!!!
great start to your TR!!! Hurry up!!! :)
Vegas during march madness is ALL DUDES.
Yep, that's why I no longer go to Las Vegas during March Madness. No thanks. I'll take my Direct TV Mega March Madness and a comfortable seat on my couch that I don't have to save or fight for.
More, more, more! :D
BOOM…the Suite door slams shut and all I hear is…”Oh, man..that chick loves me.” It’s around 6am and the last of our group has finally made it back to the room to end their night. I get up and ask, “Who loves you?” My buddy in a daze says, “the dancer at Rick’s that I just dropped $800 on.” Haha, he was dead serious. You can bet this quote was repeated almost hourly the rest of the trip. For now, I’ll let him have his moment.
Now this morning is rough. My head is pounding and I’m in real pain. Too much to go back to sleep. The suite was pretty nice and had complimentary water bottles everywhere. Unfortunately everyone has drunk them already. I look in the fridge…all beer. I decide I’ll drink a Tecate light and head for a shower. I grab my buddy Brad and we head out of the room, around 7am. All the others still asleep. We start by heading up to the sports book in Mirage. Time to lay down some coin on today’s games. I put about 100 down on a couple parlays, Brad puts 40 on the Gophers over Xavier. Next we see an empty 3/2 $10 BJ table. I figure now is as good of time to get started as any so we sit down. Brad doesn’t play a lot of BJ so we walk him through it. He does alright doubling his $40 he played here. Me on the other hand…well lets just say my gambling experiences this trip were never in the green. I was dealt 7’s against a dealer 2. I split them, 3 times. I got 3’s with my 7 twice, so I double those. Good thing I was only betting $15 a hand. Dealer turns over and 8 and hits with an A, 21.
Couple of hours have gone by and now the sports book is packed and all of our group is up and ready to start the day. We find a bar at the back of BB Kings that is completely empty and all 8 of us take a seat. It’s definitely time to start with a beer and some food to get back to feeling normal. PBR on tap…nice.
I wanted to post most of day 2 this morning, but I can’t remember what we did next at this moment :). I’ll email the guys today and get back to ya.
