Need help choosing a hotel

Hello!

My fiance and I are planning a honeymoon trip to Las Vegas in June 2006. We are trying to decide between The Mirage and MGM Grand. Any thoughts on one or the other? Also, with MGM I see there is a regular deluxe room and a West Wing Tower room. Is one or the other better? I appreciate your help and suggestions!

How far in advance should we book the trip? I wanted to wait until Feb. as we are paying with our tax return money and we'll get it then, but I'm also afraid of things increasing in price and possibly booking up before then.. Any thoughts?

I was looking to book a package with either orbitz, expedia, travelocity or mgmgrandvacations.. Those seemed to be the cheapest and included airfare. Any suggestions on snapping up the best deal are appreciated! :)

Thanks!

Jennifer

You can probably do better booking the air and hotel separately. Once you book a package, you're locked in to prices.

When you book directly with the hotel, they will charge your credit card for the first night's stay. You can still cancel up to 48 - 72 hours prior to arrival (check the policy of the property with which you book). So if the rates drop at the hotel you've booked or if you find rates or a property you like better, you can either get an adjustment or book the better deal and cancel the original reservation.

Once you book air, of course, you're locked in.

Good Morning JS. We just returned from LV and stayed at the Mirage (first visit) We were treated very well and even though we mostly played pennies were comped two dinners for two and two breakfasts for two and two dinners to take on the plane as we had no time left to eat there. We were only there Monday to Thurs night but would most certainly return to the Mirage. Food was great, not expensive, very accomodating with choices, buffets wonderful (cannot lose here!) Just make sure when you book you are not roomed at the very end of the building what a long walk! I recommend the Mirage.

I would agree with others here that if you are looking ror a memorable time at a fabulous hotel, then you try Bellagio. I have been to Vegas twice, and will be returning Dec 1 for 4 days. I am staying at the Mirage this time. Previously I have stayed at the Luxor and the Frontier (a cheaper guys get-away). The high end properties like Bellagio, Venetian and Mandalay Bay would all work very nicely for you. For location on the strip, you don't get better than Caesar's or Bellagio. MGM is enormous and I am looking forward to the Mirage. Incidentally we chose the Mirage because my sister-in-law was so impressed by it at her stay earlier in the year. My review will be posted upon my return (as well as for Zumanity). Have a fabulous honeymoon!

As for the booking of this trip, I have previously booked as a package but this time I booked separately. I found a good direct flight at a price that I liked, and then I booked directly through the hotel's website for the reservation. The Strip is so close to the airport that transfers are not overly expensive. Shuttles often request that you leave earlier than you may like, and so I have taken a taxi back to the airport both times before. All in, I think that my total cost is cheaper having booked separately this time than what I could get otherwise. My experience with flights has been that booking earlier gets you a better price generally. I wouldn't want to take a chance when your dates are fixed presumably. If you find a price you like, then book it.

Keep in mind many of the hotels have a price match gaurantee. And do as a previous poster said, go to each hotel's website and sign up for email offers. You will be very surprised at the rates they send.

Another nice mid-price center strip property is Monte Carlo. Great pools and brew pub.

Both The Mirage and the MGM Grand are very good hotel-casinos and I have stayed at both numerous times. I vote for The Mirage because it is easier to get around (MGM is VERY BIG and confusing) and The Mirage is at "Center Strip" ...right in the middle of everything.
