HI,

I would recommend driving to Boulder City and on to the Dam... it's really easy to drive to - and also the drive around Lake Mead is beautiful.

If you are feeling like it and the car has a/c drive to Death Valley - fantastic day out! we have even had a drive to Rachel, NV to the Little A'le'inn - not much there but the scenery is awesome.

As for driving in Las Vegas - we have discovered over the years that driving down the Strip is a great experience, but at times it can be slow slow slow!

Try going down Koval Lane or getting onto the I15 - it tends to be a lot quicker...

driving to the Hoover Dam is very cool no matter what time of year. Stop at Ethel M's chocolate on the way out of town - very nice garden and factory. Remember - if its always cooler in the elevation so head to the mountains to escape the heat in the summer. If you still want Casinos make a day trip to Laughlin (on the Colorado River) or Mesquite (heading towards Utah).

Combine the dam with Valley of Fire State Park. Awesome desert scenery but take water if your trip is coming up when the weather will be hot. Easily done as a day trip from LV.

I like hitting Red Rock Canyon and doing the scenic drive. It's not that far from the strip and easy to get to. You can easily do it and still have plenty of time to other things.

Since this is your first time having a car in Vegas, my advice would be to write down your parking space # and level EVERY single time you park your car if you casino hop. I suppose when we first started renting a car it was easier but since we are up to about 4 times a year now, sometimes trips seem to overlap each other, and since you asked for advice, this is mine! Yes, I know you are talking about trips outside of Vegas or the surrounding area, but since you have a car you might be more apt to pull in and out of casino's along the strip, and like I say just make a little note,,,, as you go, which hotel and what level and space # !!!

Use the valet it's free. Drive out and see M. or Green Valley Ranch. Go to Red Rock or Valley of Fire. I used to enjoy Mt. Charleston .

Look at the maps and the short cuts on the strip before you go , it really helps.

Google las vegas casino garages and it will give you a list of all casinos and directions to their garages.
