TR-May 3-10. Lots of pics, walking, and NKOTB

I'm gonna try my first trip report.

Not much gambling...I was on a VERY tight budget this time around. Being a photography fanatic, I took LOTS of pics.

With all the flooding, schools were closed all over the mid-state so my neighbor wouldn't be leaving as early. I ended up calling a cab company to take me to the airport. $27 later, I was there and ready to go.

The three ladies in front of me at curbside check-in made me laugh. Between them, there was 12 bags! Two checked suitcases each, a purse and a carry-on each. And here I was thinking I had too much luggage.... Once I got inside, I had plenty of time so I stopped and bought a breakfast sandwich at Burger King and a bottle of orange juice for the plane.

Should leave right on time. Boarding position- A34. Not bad, but with

EB check-in, I thought it would be better. Plane early. (Personal happy moment....I used much less of the seatbelt than I have in years! Yah! Hard work paid off!)

Landed on time, cattle line for shuttle to rental car. Line at Alamo quickly and I was told to pick from one of two rows. I'd reserved an economy, but was allowed to "upgrade" to a Colbolt.

I made sure to stop at Las Vegas sign this time around, then checked into the Imperial Palace. Even though I was early (noon-ish) they let me check-in anyway. The guy was great and told me the Strip view rooms would be loud late into the night with Carnival Court outside. I said it wouldn't be a problem so on up to my room I went.

After an early breakfast, I was starting to get hungry so off to In-N-Out Burger for lunch. I took a pic of the sign and sent it to my friend originally from LA. She wasn't please. ;)

I'd heard good things about the cupcakes at Retro Bakery so I pulled out the GPS and it took me straight there. There was SO many choices, but I ended up with cotton candy and donut. Both were delicious!

I tried to find Lake Meade, but for the first time, my GPS screwed me up more than it helped. My eagerness to explore downtown won out so I gave up after 45 minutes.

Stopped by Freemont Street, took pics in the daylight, bought a couple of souvenirs...magnets and shot glasses. Got bored with that and went over to Luv-It Frozen Custard. The junior sized sundae was SO BIG, but it was great too!

Hard Rock Casino to just walk around and check out all the music stuff around the place. Loved the vibe of it. Lots of photos were taken here. (Everywhere, really!)

Back to Freemont Street for the light show and more pics at night. That was one of the coolest things I think I've ever seen! Back toward IP. Snapped pics of Stratosphere and Circus Circus clown and other random things at redlights. It had a been a long day. Between all the rain and tornado and flood warnings over the weekend, I didn't get much sleep.

.

Dropped car at valet and headed in. I'd seen the Noah's Ark slot machine earlier and KNEW I had to play it even though I'm not much of a gambler. A few dollars here and there...fine. I just can't sit there and lose money all day. Well, I put a whopping $2 in and walked away with $22. Nice. Now, why did I have to play this machine? My nephew is currently going through chemo after having his brain tumor removed in January. His name is Noah. Between that and the massive floods here in middle TN, that slot machine had to be played.

I talked to my guy for a while and then realized that I was hungry again. Over to Harrah's and Toby Keith's and was going to get something to go, but I could only order appetizers to go from Toby Keith's. Pass. Bought shotglass and magnet. Panda Express for dinner while catching up on email, etc. Finally at 11pm, I was in for the night. Uploaded my pics and get things ready for tomorrow.

Day Two

I got up about 7:30 and was out of the hotel by 8:45. After a quick stop at McDonalds (this would be a habit!), I filled up the little Cobalt and returned it. Grabbed a taxi to the Mandalay Bay. I wanted to make it to as many of the "big" casinos this trip.

Mandalay Bay is beautiful. Of course I checked out the shops and bought a magnet and shotglass. The Shark Reef was AMAZING. I absolutely loved it. Went back out into the casino, took more pics, and checked out House of Blues before taking the tram to the Luxor.

The Luxor wasn't anything special so I didn't stick around long. I did have lunch at the food court though...Little Caesars. I bought my souvenirs and it was onto the Excalibur, but didn't stick around long. There wasn't anything there that interested me. I did sign up for the players card even though I knew it wouldn't be used much.

At this point, I crossed over to NYNY, snapped some pics and went on to MGM. I stopped by to see the Lions, but just like each time I stopped by on my other trip, there wasn't a lion with a big mane. Kind of disappointed by that...I love looking at their manes. Oh well, it was only Tuesday and had the rest of the week. I bought the 3 day monorail pass before going back to the IP. I needed to rest my feet a bit and change from my purse to my backpack. My left shoulder was KILLING me and for some reason, I just cannot carry it on the right. My phone also needed a charge. I think I may have taken a slight nap.

With my monorail pass, I got $5 in free slot play with my Total Rewards card. I didn't get anything this time around. Oh well. I'm not out any money. Off to the other end of the Strip. The Saraha didn't have anything to offer. It's bad when I can't really find much to photograph. My e-mail had been going crazy so I caught up with that while the monorail took me back to MGM. People are starting to realize what's been happening in Nashville with all the flooding so they were checking on me. Awww. :) Random pics were snapped around MGM and of course, I went by the lions again. I just can't stay away from them. They're beautiful.

The Coke store was next before heading back out to the Strip. I got pretty good at avoiding the porn guys and girls. Popped into Walgreens for some water. My feet were starting to hurt a little, but I kept walking so I could take pictures. By this time, I just went back to IP to rest my feet and talk to my guy for a bit while pics did the upload thing.

When I got off the phone, I we.nt out in search of food but ended up walking down to the Venetian and the Walgreens there to buy the peppermint foot lotion. The price of the lotion made me want to cry. It's almost time for the Sirents of TI show. I'm glad that I saw it, but it isn't something I'd go out of my way to see again. Still no food....Fine. I'll stop at the little stand on Carnival Court. Fried pickles and a grilled cheese to go, please. Back to the room to take care of my feet and my legs were they were rubbing together. It's only day 2 and I was in pain. Not good at all.

So far, they're only on my laptop. I'll share when I decide which ones to post. :)

That's all for tonight. I'm exhausted. Hopefully it's not too boring. As you've figured out by now, I don't gamble or drink much and I'm not a foodie. I prefer the photography. :)

Now that I'm awake....

Day 3

By Wednesday morning, I was moving pretty slow due to my aching feet and legs. There was still so much I wanted to do so staying in was not an option so I was out the door by 9:30. After a quick stop at McDonald's for breakfast, I walked over to Mirage. The decor of Rhumbar interested me.

Sugar Factory was right next to Rhumbar, but I knew the prices so I didn't go in. What is so special about a lollipop that it costs THAT much money? Although, the sticks are blingy so they still get my attention. ;)

The Beetles Love area was bright, colorful and amazing. I'd love to see the show, but this was a budget trip so not extra shows this time around. Definately next time.

Blizz Yogurt sidetracked me on my way to Seigfried and Roy's Secret Garden. I loved being able to make my own little sundae. And it was GOOD.

The trainers were working with the dolphins at the time I got in there. They're beautiful creatures, but I was unable to get any really good shots of them. Water has too many reflections. ;) The lions and tigers were very lazy and with all the netting, no pics of them either. My favorite part of the habitat was watching the tiger cubs play. They're just like overgrown kittens and watching kittens play just makes me smile.

Spent more time walking around Mirage in search of Jet Nightclub. The NKOTB geek in me wanted to at least SEE it because one of their newer videos was shot there. I would love to go inside one day, but I'm not the Vegas club type of girl.

Before leaving Mirage, I walked back to BLT Burger and grabbed a Lunchbox milkshake. Yum. (I ate Micky D's a lot so I could splurge on things like this!)

TI was next on my list, but didn't really find anything inside that interested me so it was on to Fashion Show Mall. Oh, if only I had plenty of money, that mall and I would have been good friends. Lunch was at Stripburger. O.M.G. Wonderful burger. I had the fried pickles with it instead of fries. My eyes were bigger than my stomach so I waddled over to Encore to check it out.

The bright colors and butterflies all over Encore were beautiful! Walked over through the Wynn, but I'd been in there before so I didn't spend much time.

Palazzo was next, then the Venetian. Other than the shopping that wasn't part of this trip, there wasn't much to see at either place. I do love the canals at the Venetian though. I did stop at Madame Tussauds though. That was really cool and some of those figures looked insanely life-like.

A bit after 4, I wandered back to IP to rest my feet and charge my phone and camera batteries. I napped a bit, changed clothes and headed over to Mirage again. Mix 941 was at Rhumbar with drink specials and giving away NKOTB tix as well as other prizes. I had tickets, but I thought they might be better than what I had. To have more chances to win, they gave us "bubbles" with either little charms or numbers inside and to get the bubbles, you had to order drinks off their specials menu. Fine. 4 drinks and $20 later, I was a winner, but of a $100 Sephora gift card. I'll happily spend it. :) I really didn't fit in at a place like that...very trendy. I'm NOT, but it's okay...I'm in Vegas so it was totally worth it.

The volcano was next. It was still about 40 minutes until it was supposed to start, but I stayed there and waited. My guy called and I chatted with him while being surrounded by the brattiest children I came across out there. They stepped on my feet a dozen times simply because Mom didn't make them STAND STILL and not run into people. After all that, it was too windy so no volcano for me...That also meant no Eiffel Tower. :(

Micky D's for a quick burger and monorail to Flamingo to check it out. I could have easily walked it, but I like the monorail just so I can get away from the porn slappers. Took a nice walk through the place before the pain in my feet and legs win and I head back to the IP for the night. It was at this point that I decide that I LIKE having Carnival Court outside my room. Even though I don't go to Vegas to sit in the hotel and watch TV, the selection of channels is awful so at least I get some decent music. It's a good thing I sleep with either the TV or radio anyway. What a busy day!

Facing the Carnival Court, you might have been spared this, but could you hear the regular bursts of accordion music coming from the CP sign? An ad for their French restaurant whose name escapes me, but from our room, facing the sign, it was omnipresent. :)

Just before 5:30am, my phone was dinging at me. Who in the world is sending a text message so early?! My co-worker who had been at work a couple of hours already, that's who. She was telling me to have fun while she worked all day. I responded with a pic of the sun coming up over the Strip. The response: Skank. Thankfully I know her well enough to know she was joking. I rolled over and went back to sleep until about 8:30.

It was about 10:30 before I got out of the hotel. Monorail to MGM and walked toward the NYNY. The lions were up moving around and the trainers were in there to feed them. It was fun watching them lick food off the glass right in front of me. NYNY....

Last time in Vegas, I didn't spend any time inside NY. The "buildings" on the inside were great. Having never been to NYC, it looked so much like what I've seen in pictures all these years. Lots of photos taken in here before I grabbed a slice of pizza and diet soda for lunch. Just about the time I was finishing my food, I saw someone who looked familiar. It's an older gentleman I worked with at the arena here in town. He'd moved out there a few years ago. Last time I was in Vegas, I went to see the Sounds play the 51's and he was ushering there. Imagaine my surprise to see him walking through one of the hotels. It made my day! What a small world we live in. Not long after this happened, I logged on to facebook to find out a guy from my graduating class was on his way out there with his wife! Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet up.

Stopped to play a few dollars at Monte Carlo and had NO luck. I'd been there on my last trip as well so I didn't spend much time here. I was excited about trying the CupCakery. Last time out, the lady who owns a cupcake place here, wanted me to visit and tell her who had the better cupcake, but I didn't make it. The cupcakes at the CupCakery were smaller, more expensive and and very dry compared to what I get at Gigi's. I tried the peanut butter and jelly and Orange Julius ones. I'm really sorry I spent the money on those.

I loved Aria at City Center. The art was amazing. The style of the casino was very modern and it's my favorite style. Lots of photos....Vdara was next, but I didn't spend much time here. Crystals shopping place was very different. The shops were way out of my usual element. I loved the designs, but wish it had more color.

Bellagio was next. I never get tired of the ceiling in the lobby. The conservatory seems much smaller than it was last time. Maybe that's because it was dark last time. I don't know. This design was so fun with all the bees, flowers and even the ants! It was at this point I decided I'm getting surprisingly good at the 'self-shot.' Stopped to watch the fountins during the day. Many of my pics ended up with rainbows in them.

After my afternoon rest/nap and phone charge, I talked to guy for a bit before heading back out with no real plans. I just wanted to walk up and down the Strip to take pics of things at night. Caught a couple of fountain shows, snapped lots of pics and headed over to Miracle Mile. Do I want Pink's or Earl of Sandwich for dinner? Earl it is, but sorry Earl, you do not have the greatest hot sandwich in the world. In fact, I'd say it was one of the worst I've ever had. Even Subway was better.

I stopped at some Samuri slot machine. $5 went in and I cashed out with $43. Woohoo. Time to sleep. If my co-worker texts me that early again the next morning, I'll smack her when I get back! ;)

Packer-I guess I was spared the CP sign. That probably would have driven me crazy!
