tipping at night clubs

I read something here that made me wonder if I'm not understanding something.

People have said you are expected to tip a bouncer at a nightclub

$100 for table service. So if a club has say 20-50 tables available,

a bouncer can expect to earn $2k-5k/ night??!!

Am I missing something?

On good nights they can take in $10,000 (although there is tip sharing) and some have made $400,000 or so a year but this was back when business was good.

On a busy night your bouncer would pretty much look after your table, and your table alone, all night. They would stop people encroaching your space and make sure that all of your party are safe. They will also escort people in your party to the restrooms which in a busy club like Tao or XS is heaven.

Having good security in a busy LV nightclub is incredibly important, especially if you are in a big group. $100 would be a small tip for a small party, you are normally looking at 15%.

Same goes for servers in exclusive areas. I know of someone that did this in NYC for a year or so. She made thousands. Think about it....she has a group of 5 stars-mainly B/C listers or wannabes and they order bottles of alcohol and champagne, wine you name it to the tune of 4 or 5K in a night or more. The general tip on that for the server is 20%. She made thousands only working 2-3 nights a week in college. Granted though- she worked from like 10pm to 5am. It's not an 'easy' job so to speak b/c the hours stink IMO.

Obviously if you want to do this for a living you have to be 'smokin hot' too so it's not something you can just sign up for. I believe she was offered the job after going to the club herself- in the regular area where the poor peeps sit, for $15 a drink instead of thousands. In NYC it's a lot about 'who you know'.

A big part of the tipping done is to just gain access to the hot clubs on busy nights. People stand in line for HOURS to get in. When you tip large to the front door men or bouncers they will get you in right away and "attend" to your needs!

Security at a busy club IS important. There are a lot of douche bags who will steal your drink when you aren't looking (well, they are $20 drinks after all), or worse yet, slip some date drug into your girlfriends drink. So, having somebody watch your table, or keep an eye on you, while you are out dancing or mingling is a great thing.

Case in point .... last year, I had table service at Tabu with 9 other friends. Two drunk wannabe vegas stars got a bit in my face (long story ... but, I didn't start it). All I had to do was look at the bouncer, and they were out of the club in under 30 seconds. That is what you pay for.

The real douche bags are the people who pay these ridiculous amounts of money/tips for "bottle service" in order to seem like they are more cool & important then they are in real life.

The scene isnt really for me personally, but I think we found someone who may have been turned away at the velvet rope. Sorry jchav, kind of a douchey thing to say. Let the club hoppers do there thing, if I was single I'd probably be ok dropping that cash to party in a hot club myself.
