10 ladies looking for good food and cocktails friday 28th May.... we fancy going downtown as will be spending rest of trip on main strip. But friday is gonna be our night out with a difference..

We want good food.. firefly has been recommended, anywhere else?

cocktails of course!

and unusual bars... like Atomic and Beauty bar which ive read a little about... can anyone advise good places to drink.

Also anything else we should do?.... We are from London UK.. so used to the whole seedier vibe to downtown than the main strip has so we arent afraid to try out some real old skool vegas joints!

certainy not the highest spot downtown, but the only reason I will go downtown is to hit 777 Brew Pub in Main St Station. Good beer, good food, good atmosphere.

Have you ever been to Downtown Las Vegas? It can get a little wild on a Friday night as drinking is everywhere. The Firefly is a good place but if I remember correctly it is a little ways from Downtown. The nice thing downtown has to offer is the canopy lightshow that starts at dark. You may want to check out restuarant.com to find restuarants close by.

I recommend Firefly also. It's downtown at the end of Fremont in the Plaza hotel. The hotel is kind of a dump so don't let that keep you from going to the restaurant It's a great place, particularly for a group as large as yours. Everyone can find something(s) to eat on the menu.....so many choices. The views of the lights on Fremont are fantastic. Be sure to make a reservation!

With 10 of you - absolutely Firefly Tapas - you'll be able to get 2-3 plates each and share! Make your reservation for 8:00 pm or later - you'll be able to watch the light show at Fremont Street Experience.

If you ladies are looking for drinks and tapas, Firefly is perfect.

There are two Firefly locations. This confused one of the above-posters. The one you have been told about is in the Plaza Hotel, right at the end of the Magic Canopy, on Fremont Street. He was thinking of the original location, on Paradice across from the Hughes Business Center, which is several miles from downtown.

Places to drink, well, on a Friday night, the entire Magic Canopy of Fremont Street will be a place to drink.

If you want steakhouse dining instead of tapas, I like Hugo's Cellar (Four Queens) and The Flame (El Cortez [not under the Canopy]), Vic and Anthony's (Golden Nugget).

the buffet at Main Street Station is excellent. The price is fair and the place is spotless. The hidden best is off the Freemont Experienxce called Chicago Joes A small Italian place with wonderful food. You can walk there in daylight 15 minutes or a cab for around $12.00. but dont walk after dark. It is a must for us...been there several times. The menue is excellent.

Shoot - too late for me to edit my post.

If want a little old school Vegas, come late afternoon to Downtown - drop in at the El Cortez. It is the oldest continuosly open casino in DT. They do Martini Madness Happy Hour everyday from 5-7pm. Martinis are 2 for $7.00 and you can share.

Firefly at the Plaza is a possibility... If you go, I highly recommend you go between 4:30 and 6:30.... for Happy Hour. 1/2 price drinks... Margueritas are $3.50. I recommend the passion fruit mohito for $3.75, but they have half price martinis, and beer is $2.00 for American Standards, Imports, Fat Tire, etc. are $2.50. The tapas menu is for small appetizer type plates, but they have a bunch of good ones. EVERYONE must order the bacon wrapped dates at $4.00 for the plate. Others I recommend: The Ham & Cheese Croquettas at $5 each, the baked tetilla, the filet sliders at $7.50 are very very good, and there are two on the plate! You should order probably 3 orders of the French fies with parmesan... these cost 5.50 per basket, but are big enough to share three people.... the chorizo, filet, and something else skewers are very good also... I am dying to try the warm spinach salad myself, and the artichokes on toast points. Both of these get great reviews.

The Chart House Bar in Golden Nuggets Rush Tower (also a restaurant) also has a great appetizer menu, and the plates are much larger than at Firefly. Happy Hour here is 4-6 pm, and they have a great Mango Mohito for $5, and its HUGE! They have Hummus (3 different styles) for $5, I had the Calamari and more, which is more like an entree plate than an appetizer... comes with lots of lightly breaded deep fried calamari, and chunks of breaded red and green bell peppers, and I think there are also carrot slices fried. On this plate comes two sauces, one is a marinara sauce, and the other is a sweet ginger infused chili sauce/vinagrette that is must marvelous. This plate costs $6! There are some filet, and prime rib sliders here, and a bruchetta slider plate... these are $7, and I will be trying one of these next time there. Chart House Restaurant, is right there also. BOTH of these places have a HUGE wall that separate the two, that is a giant aquarium, and you see maybe 20' high aquarium wall while you are at the bar, right in front of you... maybe 6 foot away. It is amazing!

There is also a great filet and lobstertail dinner at Pasta Pirate in the California Downtown... it is just up the street one block from the Plaza Hotel... to your right, as you face the Plaza.

If you like Italian? Las Vegas Club has a very nice restaurant called Tinoko's Kitchen.... it is at the backside of the Las Vegas Club.... I highly recommend the food here. You will have a very lovely dinner. I had chicken parmesan, and it came with a baby orchid on top. Edible. And the best soft hot rolls with it..... They also have some great seafood here.

Light shows? Please try to catch the QUEEN TRIBUTE light show, which is normally at 10 PM. It is the best! There are several really good ones. Bad to the Bone. American Pie... but QUEEN is the best... "We will, we will ... ROCK YOU! "

On your bar list? You will find a line of very fun bars frequented a lot by the locals, just out from under the canopy.... There are a bunch right in a row. Hennessey's and Mickie Finnz are two, and they also serve food at these places. Passable food, and very reasonable. When you exit Hennesseys (on the corner) just cross the street and turn right. You will see a sign that says... Downtown Cocktail Lounge... very cool place. Reminds me of a 60's beatnik joint. YOu'll have trouble finding your way in here, unless you remember that black glass is probably windows. LOL AND while you are here, be sure to visit the ladies bathroom! I LOVE THE SINK IN THERE!!!

Come out of here, and go back to Fremont Street (Maybe 40 feet) Turn right. There are three bars right in a row here.... The Griffin... this is a high favorite of the locals. Very unique atmosphere... You'll agree, I'm sure, once you see it. Have a drink or two here, but... the next place is very entertaining.... "Don't Tell Mama".... Open Mike place... Lots of fun, very up crowd.... You'll really like this place. And lastly, which you already know about... is the Beauty Bar.

If you want to start at that end, The Flame does have a great menu and very reasonable prices. Nice decor... I highly recommend the Food AND service here. Their Happy Hour, with 2-4-1 priced martinis (and they make a killer Chocolate martini) is from 5 to 7.... Eat early at Flame, then ... start off with Happy Hour Here, and just reverse the bar order.... You will have a glorious time. Try to time your departure from bars to catch the light shows.... they really need to be seen. Especially QUEEN

Just went to firefly last week for the first time and it was great. Especially with the view at night.
