Day 1 – July 2nd

Flight out of DFW, departed about 40 mins late and landed 30 mins late. All in all an uneventful flight with a few obligatory cocktails on the way! I was expecting the airport to be a zoo landing at 5:30 Pm on the start of a holiday weekend, but surprisingly it was fairly empty and we made our way out to the cab line..and lo and behold, No line!! 20 mins later we enter the GN and again no reservation line. Checkin was painless and we quickly thru out bags in the room(North Tower which they are calling something else these days, and on the 2nd floor which is smoking). The room itself was great. Up to date and clean and the bed was comfy. About all I care about from a room these days! Even as a smoker though I must say the hallway is a WOW on the smoke smell factor! (non smokers beware!!)

We found J and L quickly at a BJ table and chatted a bit while J played and the rest of us watched(his wife is not a gambler so she would usually leave us after dinner and call it a nite!). Decided we would eat before we started playing so walked across the floor to Grotto. The service was excellent(Armando I believe his name was. Excellent waiter!) We all ordered a separate dish and ended up sharing all the dishes together. Everything was very good and I would recommend this place! Two shots of Tequila later it was time to play! We ended up back at the Blackjack Tables and for most of the nite I was back in forth between down a little bit and up a little bit. J who said he had his butt kicked up and down the casino decided to call it a nite about midnite, so GF and I continued playing until about 2;30. Many cocktails and finally one nice run later we called it a nite and I ended up being up about 500 and her about 200. All in all a good first nite and sleep came quickly!!

Day 2 – July 3rd

Jolted awake by the room phone, as im rubbing my eyes to see the clock and answer at the same time, J announces loudly they have had room service and are waiting at the tables for us. When a moment of sanity finally settles in and I realize the clock really does say 6;20 AM, I grumble a quick well you might wait awhile and roll back to sleep. We stirred around 8;30 and after showering and both deciding we need coffee and we need it now, we headed downstairs. Casino was not crowded and J and L were easy to spot. We said our good mornings and I told him 6:20 am calls NOT a good idea for future reference! We went to the Starbucks out front and sat outside and waited for caffeine to start kicking in! Returned to the table and he was doing pretty well so GF and I sat down and told him about our late winning streak. Soon it became apparent that was NOT the case this morning . We sat and played a few hours and decided it was time to take a break. We all walked outside and casually strolled around on freemont. Ended up at Tx4tonite and purchased 4 tix for the 7Pm Love show later that evening($99 a piece). Decided to grab something small to eat and we walked over to Hogs and Heifers only to find out it wasn’t open yet. So we headed back to Freemont and on the way they had a Wedding Information Sign. I had L take a picture of GF and I and I texted it to my brother with the caption Didn’t want you to be surprised when we get home. I never saw such a quick reply and you could tell he was fishing for more information to tell if I was kidding or not, Slyly I did not answer at the time. Made our way to Hennessey and we had a couple beers and a Corned Beef Sandwich..it was ok but I wouldn’t run back for another. Decided we should leave for the Strip around 3 to get our tickets and hang out up there for awhile. So we ducked into Fitzgeralds and 4 Queens on way back and my losing ways were still continuing!! Made it back to Gn around 2;15 and decided we would try one more quick session..NOT a good idea! Profit..what profit? .. Ran upstairs to change quickly and off to the Mirage we went. Was surprised how long the line for the box office was and slowly made our way to the front. After finally getting the tickets we headed back out to the strip and made our way over to Margaritville and headed for the rooftop. We all split a HUGE plate of beef nachos and still did not finish them all, but they were very good. Made our way over the Bellagio and went thru the Conservatory and back out for a fountain show since L had never seen one before. Not as impressive as nitetime but we all enjoyed it. Made out way slowly back down the straight and got to the Mirage about 45 mins before the show. So sat down outside the sports book and put 20 into a machine and got out couple free beers. I cashed out for a whopping 21.75 but GF took a drubbing and could only cash out 17! Soooooooo its time to go into the show but I have these two little tickets..WALLA..there is a machine to cash them on the way in. Slide in the first one…hmmmm Screen appears..TRANSACTION could not be completed. Contact administration..and then disappears from the screen..No return ticket..No cash…just my luck! I see a floor person and I tell them what happened..all the while guarding my machine..i WANT my 21.75 and no one is getting in here!!! 10 mins later a young man shows up with 21.75 in hand! All is good again . He watches as I feed the other ticket in and of course that one works!! On to the show!! Love was great and although I’m not a huge show guy, I must say I did enjoy it and the music was very good! Walked out side afterwards and grabbed a cab back to the GN.. L goes to bed and us 3 are ready to play again! The gambling gods are still not with me and I continue my losing ways. GF stays about even and J continues his streak of getting murdered.(his sunny smile disappearing by the minute). Finally surrender about 2am.

Day 3 – July 4th

Only semi-jolted awake this morning as J waits till 7;45 before calling. He and L are going to do a Plane tour of the Grand Canyon and asks if we would like to join them. I think about it for a nano-second and say no thanks have fun! He says he will return around 5. Perfect. And then his next tidbit of info is. I just saw our Host and she asked if you even are here. She has you showing up as not playing a second yet..(Im always amazed at this, and this is not the first time this has happened. And I won’t mention it usually happens at Harrahs properties. Nope I won’t say it!). well now that I am up I get showered and dressed and tell L ill be downstairs when shes ready and I march down to the host office. Luckily no one else is there so I sit down and talk. She says ok before you say anything I know you have been playing and I have called and had the same hours the J played also put on your account. Etc…actually very proactive which I appreciated. I said I don’t think you even have GF associated with the room can you look her up. And low and behold they have her down for 10 hours play already. I said if shes playing, I am sitting next to her and often she stands up and I keep playing. Anyhow..I say I will stop in the next morning to see her again. GF joins me shortly and we head over and get Dunkin Donuts coffee. Decide to head up to MSS for the buffet. The omelets was good and the rest was ok at best but it is hard to whine about it with the 10.99 price with champagne too!. We decide not to play there and walk back down to GN. Walk outside to the pool area and decide to get a little BJ in outside. Sit down and throw out a few hundred before I notice its 6;5 bj..almost stand up..but figure what the heck will try it for one drink. 7 drinks and 3 hours later we stand up from there. The Super was from Philly(my original hometown) so we ended up having a great convo off and on for hours. So we wobble slightly back to Freemont and settle on Fitzgeralds. We settle on a BJ table and start playing when I hear an announcement about a 5pm poker tourney. Knowing J and l supposed to back the timing is not good but I go up and talk to the man and he says they have the same format tourney at 12 5 and 9. Perfect. I will come back for the noon tomorrow. 5 oclock turns into 6 and then 7. Finally just before 8 J calls and they returned from their disaster of a Canyon Trip. 3 hours delayed, L got air sick, and many more issues. Needless to say they were NOT happy!! I offer to buy them dinner and drinks and we walk up to Firefly. First time there and have read many people talk about it. We got a window view of Freemont and the food was fantastic and extremely reasonable. $88 for 4 people with a few drinks apiece. J it itching to play so we head back to the GN and L goes to bed and says her goodbyes since they head out first thing in the AM. We sit down at a table and its full of ummmm vibrant personalities. (some liquor induced!!). The dealer who will not be mentioned by name was a character. However in the course of sitting at the table for a few hours, I watched him pay two losing hands. One after staring at it for 30 seconds!! He paid my Green chips once with red chips..Not a good deal for me!! Took me 30 seconds to get him to understand I would prefer 25 chips and not 5!! He paid GF ‘s red chips with 2 green chips. She fessed up and said I think you overpaid me. He dealt a hand after the shuffle card came back and only a few of us still had bets up as we had turned around chatting during what we thought was a break. Of course I got a 14 and was thrilled!!! GF said she was tired and went up to bed and J and I went to another table in the pit. Luck was not with him and the other gentleman at the table. It got to the point they were both so miserable I said goodnite to them both this is NOT fun hearing the whining every hand. Wished a safe trip to J and off to bed I go...

Day 4 - July 5

Woke up around 8 and piddled around the room for awhile. Got showered and dressed and went down to see the host to see if my play was being recorded from yesterday. Shockingly it was and after a short chat she comped the 4 nites and I left happy. Waited for GF and we walked over to Dunkin Donuts and got some coffee and a quick bagel sandwich. Almost the price for 2 main street buffets!!. I was planning on playing in the noon poker tourney so we walked down to Fitz and were gonna play some BJ before it started. All the 2 deck were 6/5 all of the sudden. The one dealer said they would change later to 3/2. A new one on me!!!! Soooooo we found a Pai Gai table and sat down around 11. I Played a few hands and shortly they made an announcement on the poker tourney. NOT the format from the 5 oclock tourney. Had add-ons and Re-buys which I am not a fan of. I tell the GF Im not going to play in that one. We continue to Play Pai Gai and soon a few people joined us and we were all having a great time. Coffee turned into Bloody Marys which turned into Bud Lights which turned into OMG how long have we played at this table. Soon I got my answer when they announce the 5 oclock tourney was ready for signups!! So I headed on up and registered for that one. GF was having a great time at Pai Gai and we both were up a little bit of money after sitting all afternoon. She had made friends with two travelers from Ohio and they were having a blast. (my ears hurt, but I digress!!). time to play poker and I head up and the leave the screaming, celebrating every hand women for some peace and quiet! Sadly an hour into the tourney My Queens lost to A 10..and limped back to the table.YEP they are still here!! Sit back down and play for a bit more and we all decide food might be a good thing at this point. Back to Firefly we go and this time we all have just water with our meals. 48 dollar bill for 4 and we all leave full and happy! The gals go back to Fitz and we settle back at the Gn and try BJ. GF is doing pretty well but I can’t get anything going, so decide to try the craps table. I plunk 200 down and within an hour I cash in 800…yea me!! I walk past the casino bar on the way back to the table when a female(Im pretty sure) asks if I would like a date. As kind as I can be about this person would be, extremely unattractive, she hasn’t found a good dentist in decades and her fashion sense makes the “pictures from Walmart” emails look tame. Somehow I decline politely. I walk back to find GF and she is still at same table playing one on one with the dealer and has a huge stack of chips. Side note. Shes usually a 10 a hand player and will press up a little when winning. You can tell she is soooo happy. Ive NEVER won this much in one sitting!!! So I watch and start counting her chips and sure enough she has turned her 200 into 1000. I play a little bit more and won at first but when I lost what I won, I decided I had enough.

So we walked to the cage (actually I think she was floating on air, not sure if the cocktails or the buzz from a great winning session!). head back to the room and pack up with an 8 am plane riding staring at us shortly. Checked out in the AM and everything went perfect from the cab to short lines to a flight leaving on time! For the trip she ended up on the plus side by around 1000. I ended up on the minus side around 600! All in all a great trip and we survived without a conflict or killing each other. Success!!!
