Worth stopping over?

We are going to Honolulu, Hawaii and are contemplating whether to stop over in Las Vegas for a few days for the casinos of course and sightseeing. Is it worth stopping over? If so, can you recommend decent accommodation and things to see & do?

Cheers

I think you're going to find that most people hanging out on the Las Vegas forum are going to feel that it's worth visiting the place. :)

If you post your budget and dates of stay people can recommend hotels. And/or have a look at the hotel reviews and trip reports to get some ideas.

Of course Las Vegas is worth a stop over, it will seem like your getting LV for free after paying those prices in Honolulu.

Top LV hotels

Wynn/Encore

Bellagio

Caesars

Venetian/Palazzo

Mandalay Bay

Mandarin Oriental have not stayed here...

I guess it just depends on if you are willing to put in the extra travel time.

Im no geography major, but assuming you are coming from Brisbane Australia, But isnt Las Vegas about 6 hours out of your way (depending on what kind of flight you get) from Honolulu.

If you are coming from Australia... I wouldn't really fly all the way from Hawaii to LV for a few days. No matter how much I love Vegas.

If this is part of a larger trip and Vegas is actually a stop along the way, heck yes. Do take a few days to see it.

If you really enjoy gambling then yes, but scenery wise Hawaii is way more beautiful.

Make sure you try a real hawaiin restaurant during your stay, I suggest Ono Hawaiian, tell them your new to hawaiin food and they will teach you how to eat it properly, yelp.com/biz/…20hawaiin

Some of the best local eatries are on Kapahulu Ave up from the tourist trap area;

Raibow Drive-in - loco moco and other street fair

Mr. ojisan - for their garlic steak

yelp.com/biz/mr-ojisan-restaurant-honolulu

The exception is Jimbo's restaurant for Udon noodles,

yelp.com/biz/…jimbos

Also go to one of the local supermarkets and pickup some Lion Toasted Coconut coffee to take home, drop some off at my house while your at it (lol)

If your lucky it might be on sale for 2.99 or 3.99.

I agree it's worth a stop.

Caesars www.harrahs.com has a central location on the strip with a fantastic pool. You have the forum for great shopping & lots of great choices in where to eat. You have the Bellagio fountains next door to watch. Since you are center you can go in either direction to see the sites.

If you are looking for very luxurious then you Have Wynn www.wynnlasvegas.com

Palazzo is very nice www.palazzolasvegas.com

Here is a website to see all that Vegas has to offer to see which meets your personal preference since there is so much to see & do. www.vegas.com/attractions

Thanks all for your feedback. We've decided against a stopover to Las Vegas. We are hoping to go next year, though :) Has anyone stayed at Las Vegas Hilton?? It is on sale for mid 2011 and the prices are tempting!! Also, how many days in Las Vegas is sufficient for sightseeing the area and Grand Canyon etc?

Cheers!

Keep looking, there is a reason it is so cheap. Hilton is a terrible location for a first visit. Stick to hotels on the Strip, anywhere between Wynn/Encore and Mandalay Bay.

To appreciate the Grand Canyon which is a 5 hour drive from Las Vegas you will need an overnight trip. In addition I would recommend at 4-5 nights in Las Vegas. So at least 6 nights if you include GC.
