Won trip to Vegas, Tropicana or Riviera?

We won a trip to Vegas over the weekend and we can stay at either the Tropican or the Riviera, Where would you suggest staying. Are these Hotels on the strip. I have never been to Vegas and I think we are going to go in April, what are some of the must do's while in Vegas.

Trop over Riviera by a mile

Las Vegas does have its must see's plus other things to do and see given the time. First timers should ay least see.

The Bellagio Fountains

The Bellagio Conservatory

The Forum shops at Caesars Palace.

The Mirage Volcano show.

The Upper level of the Venetian, shops, shows, restaurants and Gondola ride.

The Sirens show at Treasure Island.

City Center

Downtown light show if you have time, go at night

Other things to do if you have time.

Go for drinks at MIX located at THEHotel, go in early evening.

Check out the Big name Hotels, Wynn, Bellagio, Caesars, Palazzo, Encore, MGM, Mirage, Venetian and Mandalay Bay.

Check out the shops at Planet Hollywood Hotel.

Have a drink atop the Stratosphere Tower at sunset.

Of course this is just a small list but it will introduce you to the sights and sounds of LV.

Never stayed at Rivera, but have stayed at Tropicana. Trop rooms were fair. The Trop is recently updated too. The Trop is closer to the main strip than Riviera. Hope that helps a bit.

Not stayed at either but I would vote for Trop. Last time I was in the Riv it was deader then dead. Also a lot farther from center strip then the Trop. Plus south strip is a lot more lively then the north stip.

That said any chance you can pay a little extra and get some place mid strip?

Absolutely Tropicana!

I did not stay at the Tropicana - however we passed through and gambled the first week of October. The entrance and gaming floor newly revonated - very new and clean - comfortable leather chairs on the gaming floor.

Very nice - customer service excellent!

We also visited the Riviera, in one door and quickly out another.......

If I won a trip to Vegas, and those were my choices, I'd definitely pick Tropicana. Reasons: Closer to the casinos I like and newly renovated rooms.

not there

I've seen someone post that they won a trip and could choose either hotel also,

Did you also win a buy one airfare get one airfare also? If so read the small print

Not sure if your winning package is the same as a previous poster

I should enquire about paying more and staying at a different hotel.

If you are not a picky person and won a free trip...and you have never been before...take the Tropicana and be happy! It is not a top tier hotel by any means but has been upgraded recently. Using the deuce, Gold line, monorail, your own 2 feet or cabs you can access pretty much anywhere else you want to go. You will be overwhelmed by information on this board. Please bear in mind that some people think that ONLY their type of vegas trip is the ONLY way. Are some hotels much nicer...sure. Tropicana is a low to mid range hotel and would be fine to the average traveler. I have been 9 times and would take your free trip with no regrets. Spend time reading on this site and you will be a pro before you get there. DO not think that you can do everything on your first trip..I still have a long list I haven't done and as I said I have been 9 times. If you can/could pay for your own hotel you will still get 1000 different opinions. DO NOT BE AFRAID. Riviera is just removed from the main tourist area although it is technically on Las Vegas Blvd. It is just not in the most popular tourist area. (I have played in their casino but never stayed in the hotel).

Most important thing read read read...and remember there is every type of opinion up here from the ubber snobs who think only 5 star is any good to the very frugal. You will learn quickly who falls in what category...majority fall in the middle somewhere.

I am one who falls in the middle...;) I would choose the Trop as they have recently redone some rooms that look quite nice. I also think that it is closer to the attractions that I enjoy in Vegas.

If you are able to change hotels, or are willing to pay for a room, which is quite cheap in Vegas, I would consider staying somewhere closer to center strip. We stayed in Harrahs last April and the the room was extremely clean. Flamingo and Ballys would be more choices I would consider. Those are "middle of the road" places. The higher end places are Bellagio, Venetian, Palazzo, Caesars, Wynn and Encore. City Center also has some new properties that look very nice.

Are you certain there's not a timeshare tour connected to this prize...I do hope you read the fine print- and if you are asked to pay a service fee to claim it I'd run far and fast. Somehow I'm wary ...
