TR--Golden Nugget, Planet Hollywood, Vegas the Show

We returned last night from a 3 night stay in Las Vegas. It was fun. I'll cite the specifics that you may find interesting as replies.

We spent the first night of our trip at Golden Nugget. Presidential car service picked us up at the airport and got us there with no trouble. Our plane was over an hour late getting into Las Vegas, but the driver was waiting for us at the baggage pick up.

Our room at the Golden Nugget was very nice. Everything seemed brand new and sparkling clean. We stayed in the Rush Tower. It was about 7:30 by the time we arrived, but there was no wait to check in. We got into our room immediately. The room was decorated in golds and greens and rusts and browns. It was on the 20th floor. It had a nice big window. When you looked out to the left you saw the south tower of the hotel.

We had a reservation at Vic and Anthony's. We were a little late, but we were seated almost immediately anyway. They were very accomodating. The food was soooooo good. We both had filets. My husband had salad. I had tomato soup. He had baked potato. I had scalloped potatoes. Both were really good. We had cocktails and he had wine. The bill was under $150.00 before the tip. I thought that was pretty reasonable for what we got, and everything was delicious.

The music in Vic and Anthony's was too loud. I think we were right under a speaker. They finally turned it down some and that helped. If you don't like loud music, you might want to ask not to be seated under a speaker.

We played some games and went to bed. The next afternoon, presidential came back for us and took us to Planet Hollywood for the next two days. We had never stayed there. I like to try new places so I was looking forward to it.

Our room at PH was OK. It was on the 32nd floor and looked out onto the Cosmopolitan. To the right were the fountains and to the left, you could see all the way down to Mandalay Bay. Other posters have commented that the rooms are dark there. I think that's true. I took 100 watt bulbs and switched them out in the lamps and that helped. The issued seemed to be that the window was small. It was between 3 and 4 ft square.

Quite a bit of space was taken up with LOST IN SPACE, the movie, items. There was a small desk, but there wasn't a table and chairs like many places. The bed was pretty hard, not too bad, and the furniture was pretty worn, but the rooms seemed clean. The carpet needed to be stretched in some places but wasn't worn or dirty looking. The linens were pretty old but didn't have holes.

PH was OK, but I don't want to stay there, again. It wasn't bad, just not great. The casino was fine. Everyone was very accomodating.

We ate at Cheeseburgers, Las Vegas, in the Miracle Mile Mall, that night. Service was slow and the food was average. Don't make a special trip to visit it, but it's all right.

We saw Peepshow that evening with Holly Madison. It was kinda cute. It has a little plot and some nice singing and dancing. It's certainly a topless show, so know that going in if you decide to see it. I didn't think it was offensive. Pretty mild. Not real impressive, but OK. They don't give Holly many lines or much to do actually. They sort of sign and dance around here. We had good seats. The theatre was not nearly full. We bought tickets ahead of time, but I think you'd be totally safe to wait and buy them at the Tix 4 2 Nite booth--judging from the size of our crowd, at least.

The last night of our trip we saw VEGAS, THE SHOW. It was an absolutely delightful show. It's not in a very convenient theatre. It's in the MIracle Mall at a place called the Saxe Theatre. Several different shows play there at various times during the day and night. The auditorium is upstairs. I don't walk very well so we took an elevator up, but only 6 people could ride in it at a time so most people walked up a long flight of stairs to get to the show.

You wait in a lounge until the show before yours is over, or if you don't have VIP tickets, you wait in a long line until they let you in. The "house managing" part of the operation seemed understaffed. I dreaded the show thinking it would be like that, but it was delightful. It was a full house.

The singing and dancing were great. The sets were very pretty, and the costumes were lovely. They had these twins boys who could tap dance soooo splendidly. I could have watched them all night. All the singers and dancers were good. It was just very well done. I thought VEGAS, THE SHOW and PEEPSHOW should probably trade venues.

We came home the next day. We didn't win money, but we didn't lose more than we'd planned on, so that's about the way it usually goes. It wasn't a terribly exciting trip, but it was a nice getaway. We enjoyed it and are looking forward to next time.

I forgot to add that we "got out" right before things started to get really exciting on the strip. We got picked up just before 4:00 pm. They were getting things ready to close the street in front of the hotels for New Year's Eve. We were glad to be off the strip by the time the excitment really began. Happy New Year to all!

Did you find the music in the PH casino to be loud? That was really my only complaint. I didn't find the room to be that dark, but we were also there in the summer so maybe that helped, that it was so sunny and bright and longer daylight hours?

Yes, the music in the casino was pretty loud, but it didn't bother me too much. It's pretty loud in some of the other casinos, too. I think Las Vegas had a big rain very recently. This may be why our window at PH was so dirty. I think that made the room seem darker than it would have otherwise. Also, the furniture and carpets were all dark colors.
