Hoover Dam new bypass

Hi

We are driving from Laughlin to Las Vegas, would like to see the Hoover Dam (but only have an hour or so), we are coming through Searchlight what is the best route to take for a 'quick' stop?

If we drive over the new bridge are there any places along the way to stop for a good view of the Dam?

Thanks so much

I was at Laughlin last year via the dam, we parked on the Arizona side for a free view, you could still walk down to the dam and walk over it.

The bridge had only opened the day before and there were people actually on the it looking over. Not sure where they parked though.

I had the same question. If we head to the Dam for an afternoon from the strip, are there any places to visit (remote casinos) in or around the Dam area?

There's a place about 2 or 3 miles before you get to the dam, Haceinda i think it was called. The first and last casino in Nevada, didn't look like ther was much going on there mind.

We went to Laughlin last week from LV.Expect mucho traffic thru Boulder from 11am thru 4 pm heading into LV, I dont know about going the other way. Also highway patrol works the cut off to Laughlin ,watch your speed. Trafffic picks up after youget past the Hacienda. Boulder city has no legal gambling.

Hi

Thanks everyone, I looked on google and saw there were some restricted access roads around Laughlin (what does this mean?). If coming from Laughlin where do we head then for the Arizona side?

Does anyone know if it is worth stopping at Laughlin for the night ?

(driving from Sedona) or best to go straight to Las Vegas (that way we would be on the Arizona side. Bit nervous driving on the 'other' side of the road anyway so trying to avoid a lot of traffic.

Thanks

When coming across the new bridge from Arizona, they will be a Hoover Dam exit, take that, you go through security and then there is parking lot you cannot miss. This is free parking for the new bridge. You climb steps up to the bridge to the overlook for pedestrians.

I am assuming you are staying in Vegas for a couple days. That being the case. Head right to your hotel and come back the next day to tour the dam. Get there before the opening at 9am and you will be able to get early tour tickets of the inside of the dam. All in all 3 hours our so and you will see everything before the traffic hits. Leaving about noon heading back to Vegas they will be lined up coming in and you will be heading out. We got there about 8am just as the parking deck opened and had a great spot. From 8 - 9 we basically had the whole dam to ourselves. Walked back and force with no traffic. Pictures with no one else in them. Drive was great with no traffic. Just a suggestion.
