need advice on a few motels I listed

6 of us are in our 20's and two of us are in our 50's. We all like to party, we would use a pool only a bit, since we are coming March 9-15 if its an outside pool, it would have to be heated. Gambling we would only try so not a big deal. We don't mind walking but being closer to the strip is important, don't mind if the motel is older, but clean rooms. These are the hotels we are thinking of, could you let me know which ones you think would be the best for us. These ones seem to be in our price range.

Excalibur

new york new york

flamingo

thanks. Would love to hear the negative and postive of each one.

MGM

Imperial

Mirage but might be a bit pricey

I can comment on a couple for you.

NYNY-decent, on the south end of strip. Pool not that great. Good places to eat.

Flamingo-GO rooms are nice, center strip. Wildlife habitat. Very "old school vegas" vibe. Fits the "older, but clean"

MGM- HUGE, hard to navigate around. South end of strip.

Imperial- lowest of all your choices as far as "niceness" If the others are in your price range, i wouldnt really consider it.

Have you considered Ballys?? They are usually in the same range as NYNY, Excalibur, and Flamingo. North Tower rooms are very spacious.

I have never stayed or been in Excalibur, so all i know about it is that its on the south end of the strip. And i have heard there can be a lot of kids there at times.

I forgot to add, if you stay at Flamingo, it is near a lot of "party places" and fun casinos

Take a look at Monte Carlo. Good pool, (yes, heated), good location, and all the standard rooms are being updated this spring.

None of these are "motels" (motor hotel). A motel is one where you can pull your car right up in front of your room door in some cases, or walk upstairs and see your car in the parking lot from the front window or balcony.

Closest thing to a motel on a reasonable part of the strip would probably be the Aztec Inn. For off-strip motels, Motel 6 Tropicana or Hampton Inn Tropicana would be clean, reasonable and decent.

As far as the hotels you mentioned, I'd pick Mirage, MGM, Flamingo, NYNY, Excal and IP in that order. Since Mirage is the better property and centrally located at mid-strip so I'd would go with it.

The Western has the cheapest rates in town and is right in the middle of the action.

Excalibur South strip, low end, family oriented, clean rooms, decent pool.

NYNY, near Excalibur, small rooms, terrible pool, up-beat casino, some decent restaurants.

Flamingo Low end, great location, decent pool, unless you book the more expensive Go room the other rooms can be, let us say very dissapointing.

MGM, Mid strip, great hotel, great pool, excellent restaurants, variety of rooms, sonmer can be very small but all around great Hotel for the money

Imperial, Low end, so,so pool, a few decent restaurants, great location, variety of rooms. do not book capri rooms.

Mirage The best of the bunch, great hotel for the money.

I meant to say hotel, so far great advice. It seems I check the internet 2 times a day and it seems like the price is slowly going up, is that because of the time of year or do I just keep checking.

Rates are going up due to the laws of supply and demand. If you sense an upward trend in rates for your dates then book now to avoid paying more than necessary. Should you be wrong and rates head downwards just call the hotel and they'll adjust your reservation to the new lower rates. If you find something better elsewhere then cancel.

If the pool is important to you, call the hotel before you book. Make sure that the pool is not "down for maintenance" on your dates of stay.

Most pools may not even be open during those dates.

I haven't really heard that IP has dirty rooms, so they would probably fit the bill. But realize they will definitely be on the bottom end of the rating scale. However, they can be a very FUN property. Also close to OShea's for beer pong, etc. Flamingo will provide same good location.

MGM, Mirage, NYNY & Excal will probably all have a resort fee so make sure you factor that into your calculations. Won't have quite such an impact if you are sharing rooms. Flamingo & IP will not have a resort fee.

Ballys is also a good additional suggestion. South Tower are the cheapest, but North are often easy to get as a complimentary upgrade.

Flamingo standard rooms can be older & worn, but it's a good clean place to stay (just ignore the hallway carpet - it's pretty ugly), with a lot of good options nearby. Burger Bar has overnight buger & fries specials. Margaritaville nearby. Again close to OSheas & Carnaval Court.
