Las Vegas Trip February 2011

So Dave comes home and says “I’ve got a site survey to do outside of Vegas next week and I said “well I think, I’ll go with you!”. So we spent 3 nights in Vegas in February when they were having a cold spell. It was warmer in Carolina when we left then it was in Vegas when we arrived but that reversed by the time we left. Our plane was delayed in Charlotte on the way out due to winter weather in Boston. So, we arrived 2 hours later than anticipated. We rented a car this time (highly recommend a car) and drove to the Paris and checked in. Our room was lovely. When in Vegas from now on, I will always stay at the Paris. I love the way it feels. It has great ambiance and atmosphere. It’s the right size and the buffet is excellent for breakfast. Our mid week price was $56 per night.. Of course one of the best things about Paris is the location. Mid strip so you can walk to almost anything. It is right across from the Bellagio fountains and they are my favorite attraction in Vegas. They give me goose bumps every time.

As it was late for us because we are east coasters, we were starved. We had a nice, pleasant meal at the Le Café in Paris. I had beef tenderloin medallions and Dave had a hamburger. After dinner we did the Eiffel Tower ride. It was very cold up there so we did not stay long, just long enough to watch the Bellagio fountains perform. We ventured out after that and waited for the Bellagio fountains to perform again. Of course they did not disappoint. We then wandered though Caesars Palace, caught the free shows and then back to the room for the night. Funny, from Caesars back to Paris seems to take 30 minutes and they appear next to each other.

The next day Dave had to get up early for business, (6AM) and I got up at 8AM had breakfast of a blueberry muffin and tea at a side walk café in Paris and the started walking. I walked and walked until 2:30PM. Needless to say, I had to go buy another pair of shoes the next day as my feet were so swollen. I walked to the Mirage and spent a few hours in the Secret Gardens and some time in the Casino. I then walked to the Flamingo, Ballys and then back to Bellagio to tour the Conservatory. I then headed back to Paris grabbed some lunch and then back out to Bellagio to see the fountains perform again. It doesn’t sound like I walked that much but I was virtually on my feet for 4 ½ hours. I have a sit down job so that was a lot for me.

Dave got back around 4PM and we headed to the MGM because I thought they had a lion feeding at 4:30, but they did not have any scheduled feeding times that day. Last time we were there (2007) they had lion cubs and they were very playful and fun to watch.

For dinner that night we did the Buffet of Buffets at Planet Hollywood and then dropped some money in the slots in PH. We saw a guy win $200 on a penny slot machine, we just lost, and so we left and went to RIO via the free shuttle from Bally’s. Yes even though we had a car we took the shuttle as its quite a walk from self parking to self parking. We had never seen the “Show in the Sky” and I was entertained. We headed back to Paris after we spent some time in RIO.

The next day was a free day for Dave. We started with a wonderful breakfast in Paris at the buffet and then we drove to Hard Rock and then to the outlet Mall to buy me some new shoes. (Swollen feet). We then headed to the Stratosphere as we did not get there on our 2007 trip as we did not have a car. I rode to the top of the world and watched some crazy crazy people on the rides at 109 stories. I enjoyed the views, Dave stayed at the casino and when I got back he was up on penny slot machine to $160.00. He cashed out at $133.00.

We then headed to Circus Circus; not worth a trip, but if you have kids Circus Circus is like a big midway at a fair. We then headed back to Paris to change and caught an early dinner at Harrah’s buffet. We then walked over to Treasure Island to watch their show, which I enjoyed and then over to the Mirage for the highlight of our trip. The “Love” Show. It was the second time we had seen the show and I enjoyed it more the second time then the first time. I guess because I knew what to expect and I think we had better seats even though we paid less for them this time around. After the show we spend some time at the Mirage and then headed back to Paris for an early night and some romance.

In the morning we had another wonderful breakfast in Paris and then wandered around the hotel until time to head to the airport for home. My only regrets this time is that it was far too cool to enjoy the lovey lovely pool that Paris has. Well maybe next time.

Thanks for the great TR. It sounds like you were outside walking quite a bit. Did you bring winter clothes? We’re going in 10 days and are starting to think about what to pack.

Astrid, Sounds like you had a good time in Vegas, especially for a surprize trip!!! I have never stayed at Paris, usually stay at harrahs (last several years), but enjoyed playing at the casino, seems like its quieter, more relaxed than some of the other louder casinos!!!

I am heading to Vegas in March, so will head to Paris for a while to enjoy their ambiance....

I recommend the Buffet of Buffets. It is $40 for a 24 hour time and you can eat at 7 buffets. This includes Caesars, Paris, Harrah’s, Planet Hollywood, the Imperial Palace, The Flamingo and Rio. So you eat Dinner first day at 6:30PM, breakfast before 9:30AM, lunch and then Dinner again at 6PM. Note: I recommend NEVER eating breakfast at a buffet after 9:30AM and never eat dinner at 7PM as the lines are too long. We ate at 5:30 one day and walked right in. So you get the potential of 4 all you can eat meals for $40. Even if you are not a big eater, the cost is great. We stayed in Paris so we ate breakfast at the Paris twice and Saturday morning they even had crab legs and crab claws on the buffet. The $40 is a great deal as breakfast on the weekends is $19 and dinner during the week in $25. So essentially lunch is free and if you can double up the hours, then two meals are virtually free. I loved breakfast at Paris, because of the way Paris made you feel. We tried Planet Hollywood and Harrah’s for Dinner; however they lacked the atmosphere that Paris exudes. At the Paris buffet, you feel like you are on the sidewalks of Paris, while the other buffets had the atmosphere of a K&W or any other buffet in the USA. I would at least do the buffet once during your stay and time it so you get two dinners.

we had a $56 per night room, no frills, no View - you have to upgrade for a view. Our room was 1250 - it was quiet, clean and comfortable. The view would have been $40 more and to me it was not worth it.

Except for sore feet, your trip sounds perfect.

We're usually comped at Paris and love it there. It's big enough, yet small enough. We usually are in a standard room, which we find quite nice. We were upgraded to a red room one time but I prefer the decor in the standard room. We love their breakfast buffet, but the last two trips we had breakfast at Mon Abi Gabi - my steak and eggs were to die for, and I really enjoy the ambiance of the patio.
