The tournament runs over 3 weekends. The first is the big one, March 16-20. The second, March 23-27 is still a big deal, but not nearly the same. The final weekend is pretty much a non-event in Vegas.

It's a 64-team bracket tournament played all over the US (pretty much anyplace *other* than Vegas), though the last 4 spots are filled by an 8-team play in round two days before.

March 16-17 will be busiers than a typical Thursday-Friday. Vegas is at capacity most weekends, so the 18-19th won't be significantly worse than other weekends. The next week is also somewhat busier than usual, but it's a combination of the tournament and the start of spring breaks, pool weather, etc.

There are 8 billion* TV's in Vegas. All but about 3 will be tuned into basketball while the tournament is going on. You don't need to get a seat in the sportsbook to watch. Any bar, lounge, etc.--- even a blackjack table will be fine to watch. Place a bet or two the night before and enjoy.

You don't really know anything about basketball to bet. The odds will be set accordingly.

Why is the first one such a big deal compared to the others. We will be there for the first. Bit gutted as our rates are higher than they should be for March!

The first weekend is 64 teams and the first round which means, basketball for four days straight.

Its a big deal because there is the possibility of cinderellas emerging, upsets, and multiple buzzer beaters and tears.

Place a few bets and you will surely get caught up in the madness:)

i will do, you can't beat a good upset. unless you've bet on a 'nailed' on winner..

i prefer sports betting anyway, i'll do abit of research.

I was there once during the final four (unintentionally) and didn't realize it was going on until I saw my local team on one of the televisions that I walked past. I didn't notice much of a difference in crowds, lines, etc.

No, there won't be long lines for everything!! So you think all these guys that are there for March Madness will be in line at the nearby Tiffany's or getting tickets to see "O", etc.???

Again.......only certain things will be crowded and affected by March Madness. Who are the people that go to Vegas for this? Mostly guys, and what do guys like to do in Vegas?? THOSE are the places that will be affected! Places like the casinos, poker rooms, clubs, strip clubs, buffets, and of course, the sportsbooks. You won't have a thing to worry about at the malls, outlet malls, shows, fancy schmancy romantic restaurants, spas, etc.

Great points by Umaga. And of course, the other big thing that will be affected are hotel rates.
