West rim

This was a great trip that me and my husband took the other day.. Very informational and fun! We took a small passenger van and left Las Vegas at 7:30 am. We were at the canyon right around 11 and spent about 4 hours there! We got back to Las Vegas around 5:30pm and our tour guide offered any of us a ride to go anywhere else around the strip to save us a cab ride! We were looking at using other companies like Pink Jeep Tours or Sweet Tours but they were just too expensive! Avatar Tours made it a great day for us and the rest of the people on the trip!

Looks like a lie to me. Thanks for joining TA just to plug an inferior trip for unsuspecting readers

I have to agree with you RedRox. I can't see how anyone is able to drive from LV to GCNP in 3.5 hours. I think that someone needs another beer... and a shot!

I have to agree with the others, we did the Grand Canyon in a day last year and its a good 10 hour round journey to the GCNP. Something I'm glad we did, but wouldn't do again in a hurry, it really is a long way for a day trip although do-able. This year for us its a flight into Vegas and a 4 night stay there before a night, this year at the North Rim.

The OP isn't claiming to have visited GCNP. Their post is a plug for trips to the inferior Grand Canyon West.

ktbishop, how was the rest of your trip to Vegas?

I think I was on that same tour! you're Kate and your husband was Rick? We ate lunch together out at the West Rim!

I was just about to post about our tour experience as well, how funny!

I think you meant to write a review instead of a forum post. It was a great day and I can vouch for us being back by 5:30pm. I do want to respond to the negativity that followed your post, especially about this somehow being inferior.

I can't say if the other Grand Canyon viewpoints are superior, but 10 hours of travel for a couple hours of time at the canyon doesn't sound superior to me, especially considering we only spent $99 to do this tour to the West Rim. I doubt I will see the canyon again in my life but I will never forget it and our tour was great. Unless you get personal massages while you travel, I think people are foolish to pay over $100 per person to go on these tours to the canyon. We passed or encountered numerous other tour companies along the way there, they all take the same route, make the same stops. It's TRANSPORTATION, that's about it. Renting a car is stupid if you go in groups of two, the cost is more than a $99 (per person) tour, do the math. I remember our hotel concierge trying to push us to do some pink or purple colored Dodge Vehicle tour for over $250 per person, are you insane? I was laughing to myself knowing what those fools paid as we drove the same route behind that tour vehicle, you can fly to the canyon cheaper than that!

You don't always get what you pay for, but you always pay for what you get!

" I doubt I will see the canyon again in my life but I will never forget it "

The sad thing is you paid 99 bucks and still haven't seen it, you visited an inferior tourist trap instead of "The Grand Canyon". But if it was a fun day out for you that's all that matters. Maybe you'll get a chance to see the real deal at some point.

I didn't see it? What was I looking at? There's two Grand Canyons, with two colorado rivers?

There's one Colorado River alright, and indeed one Grand Canyon. However, if you're expecting the Grand Canyon that you've heard about and seen pictures of since grade school at GC West, then forget it. GC West is not the same part of the Canyon as the National Park is; its a very small part of a much bigger thing, which most of it is at the National Park side itself. Back when John Wesley Powell wrote about the GC couple of centuries ago, he wrote of the National Park side. GC West as a tourism venture didn't even exist til a couple of decades ago, and that rip off of a structure the Skywalk just gave the venture a bigger boom.

The views and legends and literature of the Canyon was and is still written about the North and South Rims more than GC West. Why settle for the second best part of a team when the best one is cheaper to get and for not that much more effort?
