Hi, i'm thinking about doing the same.

Did u end up booking a secret saver hotel in the end.

I'm looking but it doesn't really give much away and i'm a bit apprehensive.

If you can give the details of the one you are looking at I can probably help you narrow it down. What dates? What star rating? What area of the strip? Is there a casino, etc.

I used Priceline's version of this, twice for Vegas. I just got back from Vegas yesterday and we chose a center strip, 4 star hotel for our guidelines. Bid $75.00 per night and got NYNY. We had to upgrade the room for a few more bucks once we got there because we were a group of three.

Second half of trip, we bid $95.00 per night for a 5 star, center strip hotel and got Vdara. We were initially disappointed because Vdara doesn't have a casino. However, once we got there, we upgraded to a large suite that included a kitchen, washer/dryer, separate bedroom and extra powder room for an additional $40.00 per night We loved it - it was so nice to be able to wash clothes after being there for four nights.

They way I feel about the bidding is that I am going to gamble, and this is just one more way to gamble!

Expedia uses the same mystery hotels as Hotwire. Go to betterbidding.com and look at the Hotwire Las Vegas list and calendar of wins for your date range. That should give you a good idea about what you might get. The moderators on that forum are quick to respond to questions and are very helpful too.

If you have the list of amenities and the neighborhood, it's really easy. This ain't rocket science. They have lists, you don't even have to ask anyone if you don't want to. Although I would guess that you would ask anyhow.

I was just burnt by Expedia Secret Saver and will never use it again (or Expedia). I picked an Expedia Secret Saver hotel which cost £346 but after paying for the deal you get directed to the normal rates for that hotel... £250 for exactly the same room, same days!!! Basically Expedia used Secret Saver to scam a far higher price than the current one for the hotel. So far Expedia have refused to acknowledge any wrong doing or refund any money.

You have been warned, Expedia Secret Saver may result in you paying a far higher price!!!

I used that option for a downtown hotel that said it was on Fremont and zi assumed it was Golden Gate but it ended up being the Gold Spike for $19 + 7.50 resort fee. I did enjoy my stay though.
